Here's an interesting trend I've noticed among non-fiction authors: The Direct Pre-Order. Instead of doing pre-orders through Amazon, B&N, and other major marketplaces, you sell your books directly through your own (or your publisher's) online store. Why do this? There are three huge benefits: 1. Build a direct connection with your readers 2. Offer bundles and unique pre-order perks 3. Keep 40% more of each sale by avoiding Amazon royalty fees Plus, it's just a better experience for your readers. Look at the examples I share in the video. We are doing direct pre-orders for Damn Gravity's two upcoming titles: 'The Experimentation Machine' by Jeff Bussgang and 'Building Rocketships' by Oji Udezue and Ezinne Udezue But we aren't the only ones. Jim O'Shaughnessy is doing this with his new book (published by ). Louis Grenier and Justin Moore | Sponsorship Coach are too (@TiltPublishing ). It's not a new thing... HBR and other indie publishers have experimented with this for a long time. But now it's easier than ever to pull off with platforms like Shopify, WooCommerce, etc. The Direct Pre-Order has tradeoffs... your sales don't count towards major lists and shipping is a bit more expensive (compared to FREE via Amazon Prime). But I believe it's worth the direct connection to you make with your readers. We will offer our books on Amazon, B&N, and all the major platforms when we launch early next year. But for Pre-Orders, we love being direct. What do you think?

TUS TACOS NO CUENTAN (YOUR TACOS DON'T COUNT) [Intro] ¡Grito! ¡Ajúa! ¡Échenle mis californianos! [Verse 1] I’m the man who makes the rules here Looking at the Golden State And I’m here to give a lesson On what goes upon your plate Do not ask me to your building To your tables or your chairs I don't want your grade-A kitchen Or the health codes that you share! [Pre-Chorus] You can pay for your insurance And your taxes and your rent But to me your brick and mortar Isn't worth a single cent! [Chorus] ¡Ay, tus tacos no cuentan! I don't care about your fees ¡Tus tacos no cuentan! Get down on your bended knees You can follow every rule You can pay the state its due But the guy out on the sidewalk Is the one I’ll choose over you! ¡Tus tacos no cuentan! [Verse 2] Oh, you had a health inspector? And you wash your hands real clean? Well, that establishment is boring Not the real authentic scene! I prefer the dirty pavement Where the regulations die While you're drowning in your taxes I’ll just wave and walk on by! [Pre-Chorus] You can cry about the fairness How you’re hanging by a thread But the cart without a license Is the place I will be fed! [Breakdown] (Guitar slows down to a single strum) [Spoken Word] Listen to me... there's real street tacos, and you don't get them from some establishment that's been around for a long time! No, señor! You get it from the guy who has been making it for a long time in his little cart! (Laughter) ¡Síganle pagando al fisco, tontos! ¡Ajúa! [Guitar Solo] (Fast requinto melody) [Verse 3] So you feel a little outraged? That the governor-to-be Tells the law-abiding owners That they mean nothing to me? Well, it's all about the image And the pandering, my friend If it bankrupts your small business That's just how the story ends! [Chorus] ¡Ay, tus tacos no cuentan! I don't care about your fees ¡Tus tacos no cuentan! Get down on your bended knees You can follow every rule You can pay the state its due But the guy out on the sidewalk Is the one I’ll choose over you! [Outro] ¡Tus tacos no cuentan! Keep paying your rent, fools! ¡Tus tacos no cuentan! (Hard stop) ¡Ay, señor!

We are going through a transformational season the likes of which we have never experienced before in our lives. The world is changing and it is changing very fast. The question is- is it changing for the better or worse? At first glance, it appears as if darkness is surrounding us and there is no hope; all is lost. But I urge you to take another look; not with your eyes, but with your faith. When I see all this darkness, I say GOOD! BRING IT ON! Why? Because in darkness faith grows. In darkness, we pay attention to the most granular of details. In darkness, we listen for things we never thought to listen to before. In darkness, we seek out the light. In darkness, we discover our will, our strength, our courage, our fortitude, our limits, our love, our light— we find our faith. We discover God is more real than you could ever imagine and he placed himself in your heart to guide you though anything you will ever face. This is but a Season of darkness, a “PAUSE” that we simply must go through. But No matter the darkness that surrounds us, no matter how great, no matter how powerful, it can never penetrate the threshold of where your light ends. Your faith determines how close that darkness comes to you and those you love. You can be a literal shield for them right now too with your light, your faith. God CHOSE YOU for exactly right now, this Biblical moment in time because he knows your heart… God knows your heart inside and out. Isn’t that a wonderful thing? Can you not feel it in your heart? Does it not give you chills? Allow yourself to be vulnerable to your faith. Allow yourself to feel Gods victory over this great evil. Have faith… Stand unshaken on an unshakeable rock of faith. 🙏

Caller: “I’m 33 and have 3 kids my wife and I have been married for 8 years. We got ourselves into a bit of a mess, and we’re currently looking at about $1,000,000 in debt.” Dave Ramsey: “on what?” Caller: “I closed my business in June. We took out SBA loans to keep it afloat, and now we have our mortgage, credit card debt, IRS taxes due, and a few other debts.” Dave Ramsey: “how much on each of them?” Caller: “$250,000 on SBA, $350,000 on IRS, Credit cards about $96,000” Dave Ramsey: “67, what’s the mortgage” Caller: “$350,000 on it, $8000 left on car” Dave Ramsey: “what’s your home worth? And what else do you own” Caller: “about $550,000, and nothing!, we had land but we sold them 4years ago now nothing” “I was making $260,000 but now it’s $140,000 cause one can’t afford me anymore” Dave Ramsey: “I remember being where you are. I was 28 with two kids, and I ended up bankrupt.” “This kind of debt can destroy a marriage if you let it. Sit down together and decide you’re in this as a team. She’s terrified, and this has probably shaken your confidence too. Give her extra hugs and remind each other: we’re going to get through this. We’re not going to jail, and we’re not going hungry.” “Put your family first. Food, utilities, and your mortgage come before anyone else’s demands. No creditor gets ahead of your family. As you protect the essentials, her fear will fade, and your confidence will grow that’s how you’ll fight your way through this.” “I don’t know if you’ll make it mathematically, Keep paying for the essentials, meet with a bankruptcy attorney, and learn your options. You may need to sell the house to pay the IRS, while most of the remaining debt can likely be discharged through bankruptcy so you can start over.”
