First roadside drive for MOSS, the 3D printed open source litter picking robot. Tarmac, slopes, dry grass, fresh grass, the tracks go through all of it like a small bulldozer, nothing jams. Driven from the pad, straight from the battery switch, no laptop in the loop. Numbers from the...

ngl it's a lot smaller than I thought it was! lol but it's still one of the coolest projects I'm seeing here on X so great job!!

Yep it’s small but you can build it at home and experiment with autonomous navigation and manipulation, cost is exponential in 3D 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 but 10 x 10 x 10 =1’000

this is the kind of open source project that makes people stop scrolling. a robot that actually survives grass is a much better demo than another render.

Looking to give this a go Question Any considerations using regular wheels instead of tracks. Thinking it would be quieter indoors, and have more endurance ?

Фото профиля metr0x
metr0x12 дней назад

It’s not the tracks that are loud, it’s the gearboxes on the motors. The project is open source: if you want wheels instead of tracks, ask your agent to modify it. Think about the steering first, skid steer doesn’t work well with plain wheels, so the easy path is mecanum wheels. They are a bit expensive, and they don’t fix the gearbox noise. Brushless motors or hub motors with mecanum should be the way to go. On endurance, wheels roll easier than tracks, so you should gain some range. I have no numbers to give you.

It's a first step, the goal is to have a platform for the community to experiment, when robotic trash collection becomes reliable, fast and inexpensive, we will scale it.

Nice work! You mind showing us the view from its own camera. I'd like to know from how far away it can see a piece of trash Are you going to need to put the camera on a pole?

I have no plan to put anything on a pole, the camera is already on the arm

Getting it out onto the roadside with just the pad is a satisfying milestone. Is the next run still focused on driving, or will it include litter pickup too? I’m curious how the stop–grab–carry rhythm changes that endurance estimate compared with continuous driving.

not to be snarky, but maybe don't add title it a "litter picking up robot" when it shows NO interest in dealing with litter ;>

Pivot stalls make peak current delivery important alongside capacity. Comparing pack-terminal voltage with motor-driver input voltage during the same pivot can help separate pack sag from cable and connector losses.

40 Ah from 4 cells in parallel is 10 Ah a cell, even good 21700s top out around 5

Фото профиля metr0x

3s4p is 3x4, so it's 12 cells. It's possible to pack 40Ah at 3.6v 0r 13Ah at 12v, it's just these cheap batteries are not 3600mAh or 5000mAh, they most likely use 1200mAh, very light stuff you can feel haha, almost a scam.

A rare glimpse at the territorial nature of wolf packs. Instances like this probably happen regularly as wolves aim to maintain/expand their territory and eliminate neighboring wolves (i.e., competitors for resources). These snippets show the breeding pair of the Windsong Pack venturing out of their territory to chase the breeding male of the neighboring pack (the Blood Moon Pack). If the Windsong Pack had caught up to this wolf, they would have undoubtedly killed him. But they didn’t. The chase did not last very long—a handful of minutes with a straight-line distance of just under a mile. The first clips of the chase were from a camera on the edge of a beaver dam. The breeding male of the neighboring pack (Wolf Y1T) crossed the dam and clearly knew he was being followed. A minute later, the Windsong Pack passed by in pursuit. The next clips were captured about 4 minutes later on a second camera just under a mile to the north of the first one. On this second camera, Wolf Y1T was running full speed. However, the Windsong Pack while in pursuit, appeared to be slowing down. A minute later, the Windsong pair walks back past this camera…the chase had ended. About an hour after that, the Windsong Pack crossed the beaver dam that the first camera was on in their return trip to their territory. Interestingly, about 2 months after this video was captured, Wolf Y1T’s mate was killed by the neighboring pack to the south (Biondich Pack). Since the pack was only two wolves (Y1T and his mate), this event left Y1T by himself and the status of the Blood Moon Pack up in the air. However, within a few weeks, Y1T found another mate and through some series of events, Y1T and his new mate booted the Windsong pair (i.e., the wolves in this video pursuing Y1T) from their territory this past summer, and took it over. As such, Y1T and his mate (the Blood Moon Pack) currently occupy the Windsong Pack territory.

We were first in world for 1 cells swap…but… Is it possible to repair any high-voltage battery (HVB)? In reality—no, not always. The end-of-life for an HVB depends heavily on mileage, aging, cell type, C-rate, and the overall design and lifespan expectations. Repairability varies significantly depending on whether the pack uses pouch, prismatic, blade, or cylindrical cells—and whether the failure occurs early or late in its life. If the battery fails early in its lifecycle, repairs are usually feasible. However, if it fails after reaching its intended lifespan, any repair tends to be more of a temporary “patch” until a replacement pack is sourced. From experience for cellswap: •Blade and some pouch cells are nearly impossible to repair. •Prismatic cells are difficult. •Cylindrical cells are the easiest to repair—depending on the pack design. (* module change not a topic) This is why it’s encouraging that BMW, Hyundai, Mercedes, and Porsche have finally begun adopting cylindrical cell designs, moving away from less reliable pouch cells—albeit a decade too late. For example, a Tesla Model S 100D battery can last up to 600,000km in Model S and 450,000km in Model X. The older 85 kWh pack in the S85 can even reach 600,000 km. However, the same pack in the high-performance P85D tends to degrade around 400,000 km, requiring full replacement due to total deterioration. In summary: Yes, battery repair is possible—but only if the pack is still within its designed service life.

NEW DRONE: the most efficient drone ever made! Luke Maximo Bell, a content creator from South Africa, documents how his father-son team set the Guinness record for the longest flight by an electric multirotor! 4 hours, 21 minutes, 39 seconds on a single charge, it beat the previous official record of 3 hours 12 minutes. Tech specs. The aircraft is a lightweight 3D-printed quadcopter that crawls forward at ~5.5 m/s (12 mph), drawing only ~450–500 W, carried by a single ~5 kg SMC semi-solid-state battery pack rated at 380 Wh/kg. Flown on an open-source ArduPilot / CubePilot Cube stack with RTK GPS for centimetre station-keeping. It reused the T-Motor MN10590 KV motors and 40-inch T-Motor G40 props from its predecessor unchanged. I find it interesting that the same two-person team holds both the fastest and the longest-flying electric multirotor records, opposite extremes of the same physics. Their Peregreen 4 hit 657 km/h (408 mph) in January 2026, a record they took back from a rival and one that surpasses Rolls-Royce's fastest-electric-aircraft mark, now the endurance crown at 4h21m. The load-bearing component is an SMC semi-solid-state pack at 380 Wh/kg, up from the Tattu semi-solid-state NMC packs (~320 Wh/kg) that ran two-in-parallel on version 1. Version 2 flies a single 87 Ah, ~5 kg SMC pack. The SMC pack is heavier, but its higher energy density makes the optimal all-up weight land around 5 kg anyway, and the flight-time jump tracks the energy-density jump worth it. Also interesting imho: the record's binding constraint turned out to be vibration, not battery or aerodynamics. The 40-inch props shook the airframe hard enough that the "vibes" clipped the IMU on the flight controller, breaking autonomous flight entirely (constant starts, stops and errors). It was fixed only by swapping to a Cube Orange Plus flight controller with a dampened, vibration-isolated IMU stack (mounted on 3D-printed TPU) plus a front spar to stiffen the arms. Same motors, same props, same airframe as version 1, so the entire gain came from the battery, the vibration fix and tuning.
