I'm still not 100% convinced that this wasn't just some sort of viral marketing campaign for the 2017 IT movie that just didn't pan out the way they had expected, like they weren't expecting to take it so seriously and become hysteric about it. Or maybe it was just some dumb mass hysteria event caused by internet idiots "following the leader". Either works.

The 2016 clown panic looks even crazier in hindsight because it was basically internet hysteria before TikTok perfected the formula. 😭 A few reported clowns in the woods snowballed into viral videos, police investigations, school lockdowns and sightings spreading far beyond the United States. Ten years later, the documentary is basically examining how fast the internet can turn “did anyone actually see this?” into a national emergency.
