First up: Galway. I’ve stripped the crest back to its most distinctive elements - the Galway Hooker, the lion and the sea, and rebuilt them as a simpler, more integrated sports mark in order to make friends on the internet. Same history. Less heraldry. Fewer heraldries? 1 down. 31...

I’ve become slightly obsessed with the GAA. More specifically, the county crests. So, as a completely unsolicited design exercise, I’m reimagining them stripping each county back to what makes it distinctive and rebuilding it as a bold, modern sports mark. My mum’s from Cork, so this is completely legit. Don’t @ me. #GAA #GaelicGames #GAAFootball #Hurling #SportsDesign #LogoDesign #Branding #Ireland

Too British looking. I don't like it.

Reminds me of Aston Villa!! A lot of the counties have updated their crests in the recent past to freshen them up. Cork and Kilkenny certainly have in the last 20 years

Article by the great Chris McCann on the Derry crest hand drawn in the 70’s by local art teacher:

I like it but the ship dominates in my mind. Even change it to a Hooker instead?

great work, i feel like the problem for a lot of GAA county and club crests is they are designed by commitee

I think because they are representative counties, its tempting to take the existing coat of arms wholesale and try and jazz it up with a hurley and balls.

I noticed in your 1st video that the Galway players have just the lion on their shirt-but in this 2nd vid it’s a redesign of the full crest. Is the idea that you will be making a new crest each time? I had the impression it would be a different mark (à la Arsenal canon vs crest)

Yeah, they’re essentially still crests. I changed it on the first video just so as not to spoil the first logo. I’m trying to keep the essence of the current marks and retain as much meaning as possible without having them feel so cluttered and janky.

No this just isn’t an improvement. It’s swapped tradition (which I agree can stifle creativity at times) for something that feels soulless. That crest could appear on any English soccer jersey and you wouldn’t bat an eye. I look forward to more and appreciate your work tho.

Do Armagh next please. County crests are very cluttered, simplifying them is needed.

I think the best reiteration out of the ones I've seen so far. I agree with getting rid of 'shieldception', I like the elements and the layout. Would probably make the boat a bit more obvious and shrink the lion a touch - but otherwise, superb! 👏

The logo looks British you moron, shows a complete lack of understanding of the Irish culture. Can you keep your shit, low effort Americanised crap out of our country please 🙏
