Fiscal rules are arbitrary and can be changed. Providing pothole money while taking away from those at the bottom is a choice. They could’ve taxed the wealthy, they chose to take from the poor.

See this graph below. It is shocking how little the UK spends on social security to begin with, and I think it's a racing cert that universal credit and housing benefit levels being so unbelievably low - below destitution levels low - are why there's been so many claiming PIP.

Within the context of neoliberalism, you are spot on. However, money is created, by government, and issued into the private sector to pay wages / provide loans and infrastructure investment. Tax removes money from the private sector, and is a tool to manage supply / demand.

@PoliticsJOE_UK I’d be in favour of a wealth tax, but would it work?. But also, there has to be a push to reduce benefits and if possible get people back into work.

She can change fiscal rules but she can’t change fiscal reality. More money going out than coming in because more people take from the system than contribute to the system. And more arrive every day to take from the system. She wouldn’t know growth if it hit her in the face 🤡🤡
