Fit-to-size packaging is getting smarter! 📦 Sparck Technologies is using 3D scanning to measure each order and automatically create the best-fitting box So no oversized packaging, no wasted space, or at least less! The system scans the items, builds a custom box, and packs the order automatically. Less waste,...

I watched this several times and am still in awe how many steps are done so apparently easily.

@tobitege45259 That’s the advantage of custom machines

How does it handle fragiles? I don’t see any type of bubble protection or similar kind

perhaps it doesn’t, and that specific line doesn’t ship fragiles (dunno, assuming)

Wasted space will start when they will load them into the container because of their different sizes

Best of all, no AI needed. Just measure and math it up.

I wonder if there's a reason Amazon doesn't already do this?

And when might Amazon begin using such a system? Inquiring minds want to know.

So the cardboard is cut to size out of view?

Really cool, where is the company currently with this technology — anyone using it at scale?

Lukas, that's a brilliant idea, but will it really cut costs, yaar?

@JigarShahDC About time! Very glad someone finally resolved an obvious problem with an obvious solution.

Honestly the amount of cardboard and air we've been shipping for decades is genuinely embarrassing when you see this solution

Fit-to-size packaging is such a smart upgrade for eCommerce. Automated 3D scanning and custom box creation cut waste, reduce shipping volume, and make fulfillment far more efficient. Love seeing robotics drive sustainability like this. 📦🤖🌱 #Automation #Packaging #eCommerce

That’s sweet. In the future, will it be able to cut and print custom boxes on demand?

This is attacking the bin packing problems from both ends. I like this!

I noticed the excess of cardboard on the top nearside flap and thought that can't be optimal! Then realised it's a consequence of the required length for the side panels! So it's using more card than nested, identical boxes with optimised box nets but better for random stock

This is brilliant! This is the kind of unsexy but high-impact automation that compounds into massive efficiency gains. Every square inch of wasted cardboard = wasted materials, shipping costs, and carbon footprint. AI-optimized logistics like this will transform supply chains in ways most people won't even notice.

Seems like this would generate a lot of cardboard scraps, I hope they are recycled.

Are there different widths of cardboard or is the extend in width cut off and going to waste?

Awesome. Its like novel use of some of the 3d printing/scanning and CNC type of stuff of the past decade. Pretty cool.

Impressive technologie. I wonder though why don't we mandate reusable boxes?

Even less of a waste would be Amazon and others doing ‘reuse’ programs where they take back shipped box materials.
