A lady arrested at Benkasa in the Berekum West District for engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) pleaded for mercy after being threatened with a 15-year jail term. The operation, reportedly spearheaded by the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Berekum West, Hon. Collins Asomah, in collaboration with the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Charles Asamoah, and the Berekum Police Command, also led to the arrest of other illegal miners in the area.
