Just before 12:30 Monday afternoon, the FDNY responded to a 4-alarm fire at 44-49 College Point Boulevard in Queens. Tragically, four people lost their lives in this fire. Two other victims were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. During operations, a stairwell collapsed, trapping two of our members. They were transported to area hospitals in stable condition. More than 230 firefighters and EMS personnel responded. “This is a difficult and tragic day. There were several victims in this fire. The Fire Department did an extraordinary job under difficult circumstances, putting this fire out and saving people. I can't thank them enough for their continued efforts and commitment to life safety,” said Fire Commissioner Lillian Bonsignore. “Upon arrival, we had heavy fire on all three floors of this building. There was a victim trapped on the second floor, which our members removed with a portable ladder. As our engine companies were moving in from the first floor and up the stairs to the second floor, the stairs collapsed, and those two members were trapped in the stairs. With additional help, we were able to extricate those members. As all that is happening, other members are performing CPR on the victims in the street,” said Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods. The fire was placed under control just before 2:45 p.m. FDNY Fire Marshals are working to determine the cause of the fire.

Sports 🥹🥹 At about the 70 minute mark last night during Palmeiras and Inter Miami, a family of five came into our section. All 3 kids wore Miami colors. According to the parents, they weren’t necessarily the biggest Miami fans — they just loved Messi. The oldest kid, maybe 6/7, was mesmerized by the Palmeiras fans constantly on their feet screaming and chanting. I’m not sure he quite understood what was being said but after a little bit, he decided to join in. By the end of the match, his Miami jersey was off, he was screaming at the top of his lungs and he was high-fiving Palmeiras supporters. And the Brazilian club might have picked up a new fan in the process. After being around sports for long, you sometimes forget its unifying power and what effects it can have on people.

Look at the state of this children’s ward at PIMs. Totally gutted. People had to break windows and jump out. Emergency gate was closed, fire equipment not working, medical staff not present. Terrible tragedy. Criminal negligence all round in this public hospital of the federal capital. No one has voluntarily resigned. Shameful ! Nayyar Bokhari and I were totally shaken by the state of the children’s side of the hospital. The federal health ministry should have ceased to exist by now after devolution but no, this is how it limps on claiming more and more public money. Pakistan Peoples Party - PPP is available for assistance and aid. Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was the first to take notice of it. $On 11th August, 2025, I was involved in a ghastly accident on my way from Kumasi to Accra with my friend, an accident that almost took our lives. The accident happened around 4:00 am, just a few minutes’ drive from Nkawkaw. In those moments after the crash, fear took over. Help was not coming, and at a point, I genuinely feared for our lives. I kept thinking the car might catch fire as we were helpless. We both sustained serious injuries: the bone in my thigh got broken, and my friend suffered fractures in both legs. I was admitted at St. Joseph Hospital for 22 days, where I underwent surgery and received all my treatments. After the surgery, the pain was unbearable and i even forgot how to walk. I stayed indoors for a long time, battling both physical pain and depression. There were days and nights I cried endlessly, holding on to hope and praying to get better. I feared our legs might never be the same again. Today, I am grateful to say that we are both doing well. From the depths of my heart, I extend my sincere gratitude to my friends and family, the doctors, surgeons, nurses, and everyone who stood by me during this extremely trying period. Your support, prayers, and encouragement carried me through when I felt weakest.$

Shortly after 5 pm yesterday, Deputies responded to a call for a dog in distress in the area of 228th and Harney Street, just south of Waterloo. When they arrived they were informed by homeowners that a dog had fallen through the ice on the lake and was treading water. Deputy Kubik, a DCSO K9 handler, made use of a kayak that was on one of the homeowner's docks and quickly made his way across the ice, using his oar to break the ice as he paddled to the dog. About the time he reached the dog, Waterloo Fire & Rescue also arrived and assisted in pulling Deputy Kubik and Boomer the dog back to shore. Once on shore, Deputy Clark took the 'chilly dog' inside to warm him up with a hair dryer. We are happy to report that after a brief vet visit yesterday, Boomer is doing great. Thank you to our courageous Deputies and our partners at Waterloo Fire and Rescue for their assistance.
