@stickermule I would have him put on more weight too, when he was in the Olympics he was around 280. For this fight he was 240. Then I would get away from Greg Jackson and go to an American top team, Trevor whittman or Henry hoof camp.

IMO, I don't think he needs a year off, maybe 6 months. His boxing will take some time to get better, but he doesn't even need it right now because of his wrestling. Everyone goes into a fight with Gable worrying about a takedown, or at least they should! He has overwhelmed some guys with aggression and punches, and he was too confident in his hands. He needs to follow GSP's roadmap: make them terrified of that takedown, then make them flinch on fake takedowns, and throw a few punches. Heavyweights- anyone over 205 lbs can put your lights out with one punch. Another one to watch is Daniel Cormier. His fights with Rumble and Derrick Lewis are prime examples. He took the fight where he knew he could win. I think Daniel would be an excellent coach for Gable. I think that Jon Jones has different weapons, and it doesn't translate well to Gable. Not saying Jon isn't an awesome coach and friend, but if Jon truly cares about Gable, he should send him to his buddy Daniel Cormier!

The worst thing happening today is these high level prospects getting pushed right into the UFC before they are ready. Think Bo Nikal. Steveson should be fighting on the regional scene, gaining experience. That isn't going to happen at this point, though. I can't say what exactly the coaching from Jon Jones looks like, but what I see in the fights Steveson has had is a copy/paste of Jon's style. Jon's style worked for him, with his unique set of attributes. The role of a coach is to help a fighter develop his own style based on his unique set of attributes. Not to produce a carbon copy. That almost never works.

@stickermule He can absolutely bounce back. A 12-second loss tells you what went wrong, not what his ceiling is. Slow things down, tighten the striking defense and build the MMA game around the wrestling instead of rushing to prove everything at once.
