Fixing the Snicko problem in cricket is very simple

They’ve sorted that out years ago. It’s called UltraEdge and runs at ~400 FPS. Snicko is just outdated technology that the broadcaster cheaped out with

part of the issue here is that cricket doesn't make as much money and the administrators are not very good at managing the money they do make, so they skimp when they should spend and spend when they should skimp. ultra-edge is better but more expensive by a lot.

That's because it's up to the individual organizations to manage their cameras and they all go the cheaper route. It's ridiculous and your demonstration is a perfect example of what needs to happen

Cricket does use high frame rate cameras - it’s called Ultra Edge. It’s only Australia that still uses the Jurassic Snicko system.

'Fixing the Snicko problem in cricket is very simple' - Yes, use UltraEdge like others do.

Awesome video! And couldn’t agree more. Low frame rate with 90mph+ balls blows my mind.

They're broadcasting in 25fps. Which is already less than the standard 30fps (29.97) in the US. They probably use cameras capable of 50fps but how the record and how they broadcast is the limiting factor.

When it comes to frame rate, it isn’t just the cameras though. It’s ALL the broadcast equipment. Live broadcasts aren’t using the cameras internal memory to record. The cameras feed ISO decks, live switchers, etc… You’d have to upgrade a lot more than just the cameras.

Yep I said exactly the same thing, the audio has a higher level of sensitivity than the video which is just the television feed. Also the ICC needs to standardise it internationally

We used to also have "hot spot", an infrared version of snicko. They don't have that any more because $$, apparently. We're not worth it.

the fact that your lifetime love for baseball has led you to becoming an expert at the highest level in the art of media editing, & you’ve made a very successful career of it is the epitome of the American Spirit, & unironically inspirational.

They do use high fps cameras in ultra-edge which is the commonly used tech to detect edges these days but for some reason, Cricket Australia continues using the outdated Snicko and despite being probably the best cricket broadcaster in other metrics, CA badly fails here

I've been saying this for a long time. It's the same issue in AFL aswell when they are trying to se if someone has touched the ball before crossing the line or to see if it's hit the post. Shitty low framerate broadcast cameras that are also blurry when going frame by frame

@ICC

Dude you're not gonna make us care about cricket.

A lot of countries use ultra-edge now. Which is far superior, much more accurate. But different national boards, use and pay for different companies. Snicko is Australian, and much cheaper than ultra edge so they use that.

Is JOMBOY going to fix another misstep in another sport?

Because our sports broadcasters are cheap as shit in Australia, but you wouldn’t know it by what they charge us …

Unfortunately Australia don't want you to see everything

They do use high frame cameras, but this isn’t the same company that usually operates. A cheaper alternative company was used for this series

@FyfesHair The broadcasters:

@collinsadam @Final_Word_Pod

They have it, it’s called Ultraedge and has 300-340 frames per second as opposed to the 50ish for snicko. The issue is it’s up to the broadcaster currently which one is used. Most now use ultraedge and in Australia they even use it for some of their competitions but not for tests

Just don't trust Australians with technology that requires using two different buttons. It's obviously very confusing for them.

💯 the broadcasters have to pay the $$$ and in Australia unfortunately the bodies such as AFL, Cricket Australia demand them to pay for it. Tech is there, the bill needs to be paid !

Haven’t you realised that sports are corrupt and manipulated by the betting industry?

@JRFromTheHill

But where does the spike come from then? There just be contact but the poor frame rate missed it?

Excellent. Thankyou

what trackpad is that

The broadcasters would use better cameras if the ICC didn't make them pay $1.5b for broadcasting rights and then expect them to also pay up for the referral tech. ICC needs to pay for this, not the broadcaster.

. @ICC please implement this for #T20I @cricketworldcup

BCCI are more powerful than the icc and have more money I’m surprised that they haven’t sorted this by now considering they were the last cricket playing nation to get on board with this technology as they didn’t trust it
