Investor Mohnish Pabrai on why being in a hurry to get rich is the fastest way to stay poor: Pabrai recounts a story about Warren Buffett, his partner Charlie Munger, and their associate Rick Guerin. The difference between them came down to one thing: urgency. "Charlie and I always knew we were going to be rich, but we were not in a hurry," Buffett told Pabrai. "And Rick was in a hurry." That hurry showed up in how Guerin invested. According to Pabrai, Buffett explained that Rick was always levered, always carrying margin loans. Then came the test. "When the downturn of 73 and 74 came," Pabrai recalls, "73, 74 was a very severe stock market correction. It was a crash in slow motion. Basically the markets went down more than 50% over that 2-year period." For an investor carrying margin loans, a drop like that is devastating. Guerin got a number of margin calls and was forced to sell. "Warren said that he bought Rick's Berkshire shares from him for 40 bucks a share," Pabrai explains. "I mean those shares are over 700,000 now, right?" The same shares Guerin sold under pressure for $40 each are worth over $700,000 today. Mohnish Pabrai closes with the timeless principle Buffett drew from it: "If you are even a slightly above average investor and spend less than you earn and do not use leverage, you can't help but get rich over [time]." The lesson isn't that you need to be a genius. You just need to stay in the game long enough for your investments to grow. Being in a hurry is what forces you to sell at the worst possible moment, and selling at the worst possible moment is how you lose. Patience is the edge that almost guarantees you win.

Funny how "trading with benefits" only seems to matter when you're not in Congress. -Nancy Pelosi grew her portfolio 17,000% since 1987 (from $800,000 to $133 million). -Ro Khanna made 3,000 trades totaling over $50 million in 2025 alone, and since 2024 his investments have outperformed the S&P 500 by 112%. -MTG grew her portfolio 476% since joining Congress. In April 2025 she bought up to $315,000 in stocks the day before Trump paused tariffs. -Dan Crenshaw OUTPERFORMED Nancy Pelosi in 2021, then bought stocks during the COVID crash while the CARES Act was being voted on. He didn't report the trades as required by law. -Senator Kelly Loeffler dumped $20M million in stocks in early 2020 after a private COVID briefing, just before the market crash. A soldier gets prosecuted. These people get reelected.

I first met Abid Hassan 🇮🇳 12 years ago when he and his friends were building the first version of Sensibull - India's No:1 Options Trading Platform. The original idea was to help traders and investors make better decisions, like helping them avoid going against the trend, being diversified, etc. In many ways, they were well ahead of their time. We couldn't figure out how to make the platform work while complying with regulations. Abid went back to trading options for a trading desk, but I continued peddling him the idea that he should start something related to the markets. In 2018, he finally decided to start Sensibull - India's No:1 Options Trading Platform. This time, the idea was to help option traders do better. The problem was extremely close to our hearts, and we backed it through Rainmatter by Zerodha. The idea was to nudge customers to think of strategies versus trading naked and avoid other obvious mistakes. Today, after being around for 7+ years, I don't think we are successful yet in our mission to help traders 😬. But that said, Abid and the team have come a long way in helping traders do better. Has anyone heard the story of what happened to Solomon Lange long before he started singing? This is awesome 🥹 This reminds me of the story of Dr Paul Enenche when he was in Uni. He was traveling in a 14-seater bus, all luggages behind in the “trunk”. All of a sudden, the bus tumbled and summersaulted multiple times into the bush. Cars started stopping with torches to come to their rescue; unfortunately, they kept dragging dead bodies out of the bus, but he was not sitting in the bus on the floor against a tree & his bag that was in the trunk was right beside him. No injury, No bruise, nothing. Up till today, he can’t explain himself how he alone ended up outside the bus & his luggage left the link & sat right beside him. If God has keen interest in you & what He wants to do through & with you, no hell can take you before your time.
