Videos have appeared online in which machine-gun bursts can be heard. Helicopters are circling above the city, and the internet has been partially shut down. Protests across the country are rapidly radicalizing. By January 3, demonstrations and unrest had spread to at least 18 provinces. But these pundits always fail to mention that wealth distribution in the US is extremely skewed. There are plenty of billionaires and soon-to-be trillionaires, while many Americans are drowning in debt and trapped in low-paying jobs. Meanwhile, many Europeans have access to free or affordable healthcare, live longer, eat healthier, enjoy walkable cities, and are able to enjoy a better work-life balance.
