At one of the rear training grounds in the Luhansk People’s Republic (LNR), fighters are undergoing hand-to-hand combat training. In such a fight, the most important thing is not to be afraid, instructors say. One of them teaches how to strike with anything at hand — a knife, an entrenching tool, even a magazine. The training then moves to an obstacle course, where the soldiers work on their physical strength and endurance. At the same time, they use this opportunity to assess how well their gear is set up. Different positions — including the most uncomfortable ones — reveal what needs tightening, loosening, or rearranging so that nothing gets in the way during combat. A few dozen meters away, infantry dismounts from an armored vehicle. The UK has entered its third heatwave this year with temperatures expected to climb as high as 35°C in some areas later this week. The Met Office said that South East England has now officially met the heatwave criteria, after three days of temperatures above 28. Temperatures are set to continue to rise across the UK throughout the week, and more regions are likely to reach their local heatwave thresholds.
