The object in the image is the "Earth Orbiter 1" space shuttle simulator. It was built as a wooden replica for the film Deep Impact in 1998 by Wonderworks Inc. of Canoga Park, California. This simulator was later used in other productions, including Armageddon, Space Cowboys, and Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome. The simulator was housed in a soundproofed hangar called Hush House, located within RAF Bentwaters in the UK.
