For anyone questioning Jhon Durán’s decision going Saudi… I thought that, until Akinfenwa made it clear to me that we are all human at the end of the day. ‘Football legacy’ is irrelevant to some & rightfully so.

Football is a job at the end of the day. If you could earn 10x more somewhere else, you’d go. Simple as. Football is no different.

super on point from akinfenwa but i think both sides are right. if you love the beautiful game and you’re a real purist, seeing a player of the talent of duran at his young age go to the saudi league without fulfilling their potential and achieving big things in the best leagues is somewhat disappointing; i get that. but as a man, knowing how short a professional footballers career is at the top end, the opportunity to make genuinely life changing money is probably too good too turn down, i get that too. the other thing is, he’s only 21, so there’s still a chance he could come back to the major leagues in a few years. but that’s unlikely lol look at oscar, he left chelsea for china quite young and never turned back lol

This is nonsense when applied to Duran. He is already on 50k a week at 21 and if he went to a bg club in this move he will be on 100k plus a week with at least a 5 year contract. You and your family are set up for life already- make a football move not a financial one

Akinfenwa puts it well but also boys be conscious of your young age and relative comfort. Football like every industry is brutal - the love disappears and politics dominates. Failed transfers, bad earlier contracts, injuries - all take a toll and make you see the job as just a job. Toney will be back anyway and do well here.

People talking like Duran is leaving a top club He's leaving Aston Villa in Birmingham who haven't won a trophy for 30 odd years to go play with Cristiano Ronaldo and earn insane money whilst doing so. Who would say no? 😂

People talk like the money you earn in the premier league isn’t enough to set up for life. Some of these footballers earner more in 1 week, that I would earn in a year. Now times that by 52. Put it really into perspective.

100k a week isn’t enough to look after himself and his kids in the future ? After about 5 weeks he’s made more than most will over 20 years. 4.8 million per year on a 5 year contract he would have been more than fine staying at Villa
