I like the winter but it has its moments. It’s been a good traditional winter so far. Lots of snow. Hopefully we won’t have to worry about the heavy wet stuff much. I really hate that.

Firecrest or Goldcrest and how can I know the difference?

I saw my goldcrest for the first time this year this morning. It nests in a tree near my car, which it regularly attacks as it sees its reflection in the windows and wing mirror and thinks it's seeing a rival male.

NE Ohio, USA here. I have English sparrows and American robins bathing in my birdbath at 11 degrees F. They are dirty birds.

Lovely. I am cheered up. I don't think I've ever seen a gold crest. Plenty of gold finches in my last garden in West Wales.

They're tiny and spend much of their time looking for bugs in bushes and trees... they're easily missed!

I'm located in the Northeastern USA in a country setting it's so sad to see the loss of birds the last 40-50 years. As a result of destructive human activities especially the greed and neglect of the planet, generations will never know what we were so lucky to have witnessed!
