Otto (Gary Kasper) confronts Louden about dropping down to 168 to wrestle “The Shute” in this scene from VISION QUEST. Gary actually tried out for the role of Shute, but it ultimately went to Frank Jasper. That’s a young Forest Whitaker as “Balldozer” in the opening shot. Great tunes! This is a great trailer for the 4K release of FULL METAL JACKET. It premiered 39 years ago #OnThisDay in Beverly Hills, CA. It was the longest production I’ve ever been involved with. While working with Kubrick in London, we found out my wife was pregnant, my son was born, and he turned 1 — all before the film was complete. I’m often asked about the pegboard scene in VISION QUEST. That was all me. No stunt doubles or safety measures. I trained for a long time and had to climb it several times to get all the angles. The “trick” is not to over extend, so you’d be pulling up your entire body weight. You have to keep it compact. I just found this video! Last year UFC President and CEO Dana White joined me to introduce a special 40th anniversary screening of VISION QUEST at the Fox Theater in Spokane, Washington (where we made the movie)! Cash Stone was my wrestling coach and trainer. He also played the referee at the end of the film! Journey’s “Only the Young” plays as Louden Swain runs across multiple bridges spanning the Spokane River during the opening credits of VISION QUEST. Director Harold Becker used these bridges as a metaphor for his coming-of-age story where crossing a body of water symbolizes transition, rebirth, and leaving the past behind. I had to eat two 10-inch pancakes, a pound of home fries, six sausage links, six strips of bacon, and a six-egg Western omelette in less than 30 minutes. Once again, I received a shirt, compensation for my meal, and a picture on the wall, but they didn't put my picture on the wall immediately, and so I can't share it with you at this time.

A Jazzman’s Blues was the first movie I ever wrote. It took me 27 years to make it, and after I finished making the film and released it to the world, I felt a kind of grieving in my spirit. I soon realized that this is what can happen when you hold onto a dream for so long and finally see it come to pass. In all honesty, I wasn’t sure what was next. Of course, I would continue doing what I was known for, but I didn’t have that next thing in my heart—until Ambassador Nicole Avant called me about The Six Triple Eight! I’m so glad she asked me to do this movie. It gave me the excitement and hope I needed to keep moving forward. We can’t wait for you to see The Six Triple Eight! Opening this Friday in select theaters and streaming worldwide on Netflix on December 20th. This one is for EVERYONE!
