For as long as there is baseball, people will know Armando Galarraga as a player that pitched a perfect game and will know the name Jim Joyce for making one of the worst (nothing controversial about it) calls is all of sport. No amount of doctoring the record book... show more

How could anyone forget. The worst call in sports history. They should give him a perfect game.

‘Nobody’s perfect’ was Armando’s ironic comment defending Joyce. I’m okay with leaving history to way it played out

No one felt worse than Joyce. I remember his interview after the game. Hard not to feel bad for the man. He was a great umpire.

@nut_history Obviously not a great umpire. Obviously a Game rigging piece of shit.

@nut_history Bill Buckner was a great defensive first baseman and offensive player, but he let one get through the wickets and that defined his career. Not fair. People make mistakes, besid you, I guess.

@nut_history Mistakes happen. That call was made before the play started. All of sports and jobs and life is all fixed. Fuck this place.

@nut_history Lighten up. His reactions said different than what you perceive. Have a great day

The video of Joyce after the game in tears, admitting he cost that kid history is honestly really sad.

Crazy thing is Joyce was a great umpire. He just had a Bill Buckner moment that people will always remember him for.

I wish people would also recognize how remorseful Joyce was afterward. It was an honest, but horrible, mistake for an otherwise good umpire.

2 outs in the 9th, game is 3-0, even in a “tie goes to the runner” situation (which this was not), you call the out and there’s not a person in the world (including the other team) that will fault you for it.

This play led to the birth of instant replay in Baseball. That will be Gallaragas legacy.

That play haunts Jim Joyce as much as Armando. Sad stuff.

This should go in the books as a perfect game, with the caveat attached. Worst crime of a call since Denkinger missed the play in the 1985 Royals-Cardinals WS.

How TF does anyone miss this call

It was Miguel Cabrera's fault. That was a lazy ground ball to second base.

Funny thing though, if Miggy let's the second baseman field the ball, it's nowhere near as close of a play. I'm not saying Joyce didn't blow it, but Miggy fielding it made it close than it should have been.

One of the few times I didn't even need to see the replay to know it was the wrong call

It's more famous than almost every other perfect game and there is an excellent book about it.

Armando Galarraga handled that with class. Unreal. No way I would’ve lost my mind. Good thing there’s zero chance I pitch in the majors🤣

The irony with Jim Joyce messing up is that we remember this more than other Perfect Games and No-Hitters.

This is just wrong everyone knows it’s wrong and MLB should be able to,

I stopped watching baseball for over a decade after this. I'm not even a tigers fan, it was just so heinous I couldn't drag myself to care about a sport that would so obviously cheat it's players.

That’s honestly hard to watch

Nobody talks about Miguel Cabrera making this a harder play than it needed to be. If he stays home and lets Carlos Guillen play that ball, the call is outside any margin of error.

Selig and Manfred not overturning the call after admitting it was wrong because of some made up Pandora’s box is a cop out George Brett’s HR in the Pine Tar game was overturned and nothing happened afterwards Just a wrong was corrected right away Should be the same here

Seeing Jim Joyce get so emotional over the blown call was something else. I get the hate but also, he’s a human and makes human mistakes.

28* out Perfect game

There's a GREAT ESPN film on this. Law students tried to have MLB overturn this, as they had in certain situations in the past. Of course, MLB didn't. BUT, this gave way to instant replay the very next year. Armando Galarraga threw a perfect game. Full stop.

Since it's (challenges) now a rule and part of the game, this call should be overturned and the perfect games credited.

Oh yeah he out by a mile

As a Tribe fan, this felt so bad in so many ways. But, F the Tigers

One of sports worst travesties made worse by their unwillingness to change the books. And he handled it like an absolute champ. We all know he has a perfect game 💙

Joyce blew it and deserves the blame......

Horrible call

Did the ump ever discussed this.

That one play did more to bring instant replays and manager challenges to MLB than 1,000 previously blown calls. And Jim Joyce to his eternal credit would be the first to agree.

And Galarraga handled that BS call like a true professional. There are not many pitching today that would do that.

Runner out of the baseline, great play by Cabrera.

Bad call for sure, but '85 Denkinger World Series "safe" call was the worst ever considering magnitude & setting.

Mircocosm of baseball. Let Bonds and the rest of the gang shoot up roids, pretended not to know. Armando Galarraga clearly had a perfect game, MLB pretends no to know and will do nothing about it. Yet Pete Rose knowingly cheats, all forgiven, lets all start betting on games now.
