For decades, I’ve maintained my sobriety by regularly participating in the sobriety of others and attending AA meetings. The changes I’ve seen in those 40 years are astounding. Today, twice as many Americans die of addiction every year as died during the entire Vietnam War. And while there have... been incredible innovations in recovery programs, as a nation we have failed to address the staggering magnitude of the crisis. Later today, my campaign will release “Recovering America”, a documentary film about the drug addiction problem in our country and the kinds of rehabilitation programs my administration will support. Some died in the course of battle, some died as a result of injuries sustained in the course of protecting the nation, and they left their loved ones behind. As an institution, the armed forces are very crucial and central to the survival of every nation, and I must admit, like every institution in Nigeria, things have not been well. As a government, we will continue to provide the necessary tools and enabling environment for the Armed Forces to effectively discharge their constitutional responsibilities of protecting the lives and property of citizens in the State.
