For more than 70 years, British broadcaster and naturalist, Sir David Attenborough has brought nature to our screens. At 100, he reflects on one unforgettable moment - coming face to face with mountain gorillas in Rwanda. Here’s that encounter from 1979.

We watched the documentary on Netflix last night. It is superb, and Sir David is a global treasure. Here is the trailer:

This is indeed an extraordinary experience. The silverback in this pic is just yawning :) :D

Thank you for bringing so much beauty to people‘s lives. What you have done will remain forever.🦅🎁🙏

Attenborough is extraordinary. The smile on his face in the photos with these glorious gorillas expresses such joy that it’s impossible not to sense how deep his love and respect for them and for the natural world and for the experience of connection. We’re so lucky he chose to be our teacher.

@martin_mto Sir David Attenborough is a national treasure.

“It seems really, very unfair that man should have chosen the gorilla to symbolize all that is aggressive and violent—when that’s the one thing that the gorilla is not—and that we are.” Profoundly true statement.

Bros behave better than some entitled dumbasses in the hood

Sir David Attenborough a good person, cult, unmatched voice, genuine, a truly legend. David and Jacques Cousteau are 2 great examples of people who have worked hard to preserve our wonderful planet. God gave them long life and David is still counting close to 100.

Everything this man has done is amazing. Which doesn’t begin to describe it.

Blessings to Sir Attenborough for inspiring a generation and more.

For 70 years Sir David Attenborough has shown us nature's wonders. At 100, he still remembers this moment in Rwanda most. Coming face to face with mountain gorillas in 1979. The man who made the world care about wildlife. You inspire Me.....respect🙏

At 100 he looks so good

Amazing David is 100.. life on earth was an amazing series!💖💖

You know what that means, David? It means she accept you to be part of her troops, you are a honorary gorilla to them.

Sir David Attenborough’s passion for nature has transformed global understanding of the natural world through landmark documentaries watched by billions. His work has inspired conservation movements, boosted protected areas, and raised awareness of biodiversity loss and climate change. By humanising wildlife and urging collective action, he has shaped public attitudes, and a generation of scientists and activists committed to planetary stewardship.

She was checking he was another sentient being. Capable of thought and communication.

❤️

@HespeChris34466 I'll never forget that sequence.

And his abuse of animals will eventually be revealed once the British intelligence services realise the public have become aware of atrocities he did during his trips to Africa in the 70s-90s. He’s a sick individual who managed to maintain a pristine reputation despite his evils.

Amazing milestone!!! The Lyre bird mimicking chain saws cutting the forest in 1998 certainly hit home about what was being done to the rainforests. Chain saws used for this leopard ice sculpture I carved for an Attenborough party… sadly not the man himself 😬

Magnificent David Attenborough 🔥🔥

@theashrb @ReinaaNatasha

Amazing man , not a thing he doesn’t know about nature

David Attenborough❤️.

Attenborough has been broadcasting for almost as long as the existence of israel, infact he was born 20 years before Israel even existed.

I thank the Lord that he has all these amazing memories… God made sure this remarkable man never lost them 💙

@louisa1000 Beautiful story.

@AllisonPearson That would have been unbelievable. What a man and service he has performed for nature and countless species of animals..👏👏👏

Happy birthday Sir, thank you for visiting my friend neighbours gorillas in Rwanda. I wish they can watch your adventures on BBC! You and Diane Fosssey are our true model Heroes.

@DeborahMeaden He’s the Man!!
