For reference here, this is what real traditional Canadian music is. Not this foreign honky tonk nonsense.

Stan Rogers wrote country music. He had an entire country album. Canada has always had a vibrant country music tradition. Visit anywhere outside of big cities and the only thing people listen to is country and rock. It's not limited to the West at all. All the Maritimes listen to is country and rock. Anywhere in Ontario outside of Toronto and Ottawa are the same. The biggest music festivals in the country are all country festivals. Artists like Paul Brandt, Shania Twain, Stompin' Tom Connors, Dean Brody, Brett Kissel. You also have Neil Young and The Band who were very much inspired by country. The only place it didn't really catch on is Quebec who have their own music.

Stan Rodgers. The Writer of Barrett's Privateers wrote country music. He had an entire country album

Good post but western Canada does have authentic strains of Canadian country music, Ian and Sylvia Tyson come to mind, Try “Four Strong Winds”

If you don't listen to at least three stan rogers songs a day, what the fuck do you listen to?

I grew up in a loving house just like that! 🥺❤️🔥 I wish that every Canadian could’ve have had an Uncle Stan and a kitchen party every Saturday night! 🔥🍁✊🏻

Funny, I just watched that yesterday.

There is a lot of overlap with traditional Canadian music and Americana. Many of the influences are similar and along with Great Britain we followed similar trends.

I liked this post bc those clips are awesome. But idk why you’re pretending there isn’t a strong history of country western, fiddling and folk music in Canada.

Both styles of music are distillations of Scots-Irish and Irish folk music, just going in slightly different directions.

God damn them all, I was told We'd cruise the seas for American gold We'd fire no guns, shed no tears Now I'm a broken man on a Halifax pier The last of Barrett's privateers

Stan Rogers Supremacy.

Bhangra isnt traditional?

I love both of those and really dislike American country music. All that twanging, it all sounds the same.

"The Tragically Hip and Ian Tyson are foreign honky tonk nonsense" - @FortySacks, probably.

Wait till Gen Z discovers Stompin' Tom Connors

@grok what is the name of the song in the second clip?

Señor fortnite... are you of les grenouilles?

Luc Plamondon was right with Starmania just twenty years too early. Un numéro dans le dos et une étoile sur la peau

This is my traditional Canadian music

This is one of my favorite songs because, by its hypnotic nature, as the song goes on it transforms the bagpipes into the sound of a fiddle...as if the instruments are brothers. Listen closely. via @YouTube

That's not real traditional British Columbian music. Keep it in the East.

Barrett's Privateers is great, but Fisherman's Wharf is a banger as well

One of my children's favorite songs.

Pretending Folk music isn't real😂There is only pop-country

The Rankin Family used to play on mainstream radio. Could anything like that happen today?
