Despite it wrecking the business I spent 10 years building - while undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I was also asked why I’ve never bowed to pressure to apologise, as some people do. The answer is simple: because I know I’m right. And how galling it has been returning to the profession after a break - and seeing some journalists continue to report inaccurately on sex and gender. For example, describing male crimes as having been committed by women, or using female pronouns for individuals who are clearly, visibly male. My decision to return to journalism was definitely influenced by a desire to keep the issue on the agenda - and continue to challenge inaccurate reporting and support the efforts of groups like SEEN in Journalism.
