With relation to what he’s saying…I’m not a big one for setting outcome objectives. Sport psychology is know for its work in goal setting - as a sport psychologist I rarely ask clients to consider outcomes. We know we want to win…we know we want to earn as many points as possible…we know we want great outcomes… So why bother to set them… They can also tend to get in the way in sport. “I want to win three times this season”…but what if you get half way through the season and you haven’t won once? What does that mean to your internal narrative now? What might that do to your stress levels? Outcomes are neither here nor there. We all want great outcomes. We need to be students of performance and process…
