How Kagame's RPF committed the genocide against the Hutu in the province of Ruhengeri in the late 1990s. The Hutu were hunted down, and then they entered a cave to escape. Kagame's army created the smoke by using pili pili/peppers, and sent it into the cave. After that, they sealed the entrance with cement and waited there for three days. They died. In his home area, after that genocide, no man survived, only the new generation! They were also hunted with the help of helicopters. The genocide against the Hutu was carried out by Kagame's RPF, with the help of some Western leaders and multinationals, who wanted them exterminated, to exploit Eastern Congo with little resistance! I remember April 1994 as if it were yesterday. This short testimony goes to the youth, but especially to those who dare to speak of a “double genocide.” I was not hunted. But I remember how Tutsis were hunted. I remember conversations with my Tutsi peers. Fear in their eyes. Total despair. Wondering where to hide. I remember Tutsi neighbours trying to return to their places of origin, hoping to find safety, and never making it. Some were killed on the way. Others were killed when they arrived, in places they believed would protect them. I remember churches becoming places of animosity. Places of slaughter. And I remember not understanding how people could suddenly become so cruel. There was a roadblock near our home. People were stopped and asked to present their IDs. If your ID said Tutsi, you were to die. If you had children, they were to die, no matter their age. If you were pregnant, the unborn child was to die first. The unspeakable had become normal. There was a nearby forest. Killers had given it a name, CND. And we would hear them say they had taken people to CND. That is how death was spoken about. Casually. As if it meant nothing. No one questioned it. Those who could ask were the same ones killing or giving the orders. At no point during the Genocide against the Tutsi did I hear of Hutus being hunted for being Hutu. Tutsis were hunted. Systematically. Ruthlessly. Yes, some Hutus were killed because they were mistaken for Tutsi. Yes, some Hutus were killed because they refused to kill, or because they chose to hide and protect Tutsis. Yes, many Hutus died on the way to exile, mostly from cholera. But they were never hunted to death for being Hutu. Let us not distort history. Let us not equalise what was never equal. To the youth, Rwanda was once dead. What you see today did not exist. And yet, we rose. We rebuilt. We chose unity over division. Today, Rwanda stands strong, among the fast-developing nations, guided by visionary leadership under H.E. Paul Kagame. Under Inkotanyi, who stopped the genocide when the international community failed to act. Our dignity was restored. Today, amahanga aratwubaha. This is not something we can ever take for granted. We must stand together to protect our country and our leadership. We must stand together to fight any harm against Rwanda. We must stand together against any form of genocide ideology. Let’s look at what my sister is actually saying. First, I am not arguing about the term ‘Genocide against the #Tutsi.’ It is a fact. Tutsis were hunted and killed just for being Tutsi, and Hutus did the killing. But let’s be honest about the story being told. While Hutu extremists were the killers, the Gacaca court records prove that most Hutus did not kill anyone. The story from the FPR-Inkotanyi is a lie. They try to make every Hutu look like a murderer just to shame the whole group. The official ceremonies are also unfair. They honor the Tutsis, which is right, but Hutus killed by the #Interahamwe or the #RPA get no respect from the country. By ignoring them, the government is treating these innocent victims like the monsters who killed them. Then there is the big lie: The government says there are no ethnic groups in Rwanda(#Ndi umunyarwanda ), but their whole definition of the genocide depends on those groups. It’s a joke. This confusing talk is why foreigners always ask: "Are you from the group that killed or the group that died❓ Make no mistake: Paul Kagame and the FPR-Inkotanyi are doing this on purpose. They want to hide their own part in the violence. From the shooting down of #Habyarimana’s plane ( that’s not justification for killing Tutsi’s tho) the killings in Byumba, Gakurozo, Kibeho, and the Congo, they are trying to bury history. Where is the condemnation of the Arabs who have been slave trading way before the Europeans? Where is the perpetual demonization of Turks for the Armenian Genocide? Today, April 7th, we remember the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. 🇷🇼 With all my heart, I bow to honor the family members I never had the chance to meet. God is great for protecting our family from disappearing completely. 🙏 A very few survived to give us life and to give us your names. You will never be forgotten as long as we are here. 🕯️ In these times, as we remember the Tutsi who were killed because of who they were, I also remember the Hutu who died with them. I remember the Hutu who were killed with their families because of their political ideas, those who were killed because they hid the Tutsi, and those who were killed simply because they looked like Tutsi. A generational challenge for the young people of Rwanda 1. Acknowledge the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi was wrong, should never have happened, no justification for it is acceptable civil discourse 2. Nurture a collective consciousness around the genocide, as a means of preventing recurrence. This consciousness should not be in words only; it should be in actions too 3. Understand that genocide happened because Rwandans were divided; as a result, unity is the anti-dote against recurrence. The pursuit of unity is not for its own sake; it has a practical objective 4. Building a country never ends, it’s eternal. We build it better and faster only when united. We destroy it faster than we can build it when divided. 5. You can choose the identity you want; but if the goal is unity (the requirement for building the country) then the identity of unity that we have is the Rwandan identity. We know the destruction that came from the identities of Hutu and Tutsi. 6. Good thing is that identity is what you choose to be. I have a story. A Burundian researcher asked families of Rwandan and Burundians who were alive during colonial rule. He asked the husband “what is your identity?” The husband responded “we are of the Gisaka identity,” referring to one of the regions in pre colonial society; others said they are Abagesera, Abanyenduga, and so on. He asked “what is the identity of your children?” The father said, “they are Hutus.” The perplexed researcher then asked, “how is it possible that you do not have the same identity as your children?” The father said, “those ones were born during the colonial period!” 7. So young people don’t have to use the excuse of taking their parents’ identity that meant destruction when they can choose an alternative that can lead them to the future they want. 8. The choice is there for young people to make; but the right choice will not happen on its own by accident. It must be a deliberate pursuit. Young people must exercise their agency and let their youthfulness come to bear in actively creating that country of their dreams!
