Today is autistic pride day. And there is something special about being able to post a video of me stimming, when even going back a year or two years I could never have done that. My autistic traits are the parts of myself I grew up feeling embarrassed about. I wanted to hide it all away, to blend in and be like everyone else. But no matter how hard I tried, I just wasn’t like everyone else, and trying to be broke me. I don’t think autistic pride means you have to love being autistic. I think autistic pride is about taking back the power from the world and the people that wanted me to hide my autistic self. Learning to love myself as I am, accept myself for who I am, and know that I am autistic and that is okay. It is not good, it is not bad - it just IS. I know I am lucky to be able to discover the authentic me, and feel safe to be myself. I am leaning in to the authentic version of me as fully as I can. Happy #AutisticPrideDay. Know that however you feel about this day is okay. I don't know about you guys, but I feel extremely blessed. Beautiful house. Beautiful wife and kids. Beautiful country that has given me so much. I don't know about you guys, but I feel some sort of way every SINGLE time I look at our American flag. It is easy to get caught up in the chaos of life and all of the things going wrong. Sometimes, it is harder to see your blessings right in front of your face. Take time to notice those things and praise God! He has his hand on every part of your life. Trust him.
