If Australia wants to start heading in the right direction then reforming our tax system has to be of the highest priority. Our tax base is severely eroded because our tax act allows foreign companies to pay less tax than Australian companies making all Australians poorer. What's so frustrating about all of this is that Treasury and the ATO are aware of this issue and does nothing about it, yet are more than happy to increase taxes on Australians. It beggars belief for example that the ATO has not updated our tax treaty with Ireland since 1983 as billions of dollars are being sent there by Multinationals to avoid paying tax in Australia.
