We all (at least in Europe) use that kind of windows … not sure where’s the problem 😉?

Try opening the German window completely, while it is already tilted! scares your ass off. (it will not break)

There is no evidence for this. This type of windows are very very old.

In the US we don't need windows that open. We can have central air which cleans the air via filters, then a UV light installed in the furnace kills germs & mold, and sends the new fresh air through the home. * avoids outdoor pollution so we can keep driving giant SUVs * air is cleaner than the sun would have provided * no cold air entering in winter

Your mind will be blown if I tell you there's another mode for these windows. For microventilation

It’s not just Germany it’s basically every home in all of Europe. Not sure why we don’t have these in the US.

Some rental contracts in Germany require that you flush the air out of the apartment two or even three times per 24 hours. Year round.

Those are tilt-and-turn windows and exist in Spain since the 90s.

Germans seem very impressed with their windows.I’ll take our air conditioning.

Why would you need to replace the "old air" 4 times a day?

Radical Living's profile picture

Sometimes this is even written as an obligation in the rental contract 😅

fun fact: in turkey we call it "wasistas". because in the 18th century, when the french first encountered these, they would ask or call out "was ist das?" to the person looking through them; over time, this expression became the name of the window system itself.

If I did any of those with my apartment in Colorado, I'd be filling it with yellow jackets. Germany can do this because they have very few bugs.

To be honest I'm more surprised that not all windows work like that xD

We have more or less the same ones in France. Pretty useful. And way less dangerous than the sash windows (which we call "guillotine windows" 🤣).

That's cute, you thought a German window was gonna break, meanwhile our ACs in LA don't even work.
