Statement from the Toronto Blue Jays:

Met him in 2017 great man so great with all the kids

@MLB This is an absolute punch in the gut. I am so heartbroken to hear this news. I was wondering where he was yesterday because heโs always at the reunions. This hurts to the core. He was an amazing Blue Jay and one of my all-time favorites.

What terrible, shocking news coming just one day after the Jays 50th celebration & reunion. Rest in peace & thanks for the memories. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

So sad. RIP Duane. He was a true gem that our boys loved at the Blue Jays Camps

@MLB DUANE WARD you and tom hankie you have been my favorite pitchers back the. Watching both pitching the late innings and win 2 world titles for jays .you have been the cornerstone for the blue jays franchise. My deepest condolences to your wonderful family rest in peace DUANE WARD.

So shocked to read this today. What a guy. What a pitcher. His poor family must be in shock. Hundred percent effort in every game he played. I am just absolutely shocked.

RIP Life is toooooooo short!!!!

Thank you Duane

@MLB ๐ญ RIP D.W. ๐

So sad to hear this ๐๐ Condolences to his family -- both blood and Blue Jays๐๐ฝ

The one two punch closing a game over 10 years and the 92 93 World Series so sad to hear, RIP Wardo you will be missed ,condolences to his family! ๐ฅ

Deepest condolences to his friends, his family and to the entire Jay's Nation. I was just a young boy playing ball myself while idolizing so many members of this organization. Although my knowledge of the game was not fully developed, I remember those key players that always made a difference, and Duane Ward was always a jersey that stuck out to me. May you rest peacefully in that stadium in the sky and continue to help our birds fly๐๐พโ๐พ๐๐ฆ๐๐คฒ๐พโพ๏ธ๐ชถ๐งกโ๐พ๐๐

Wardo's passing is hitting hard. Perhaps because he was in T.O. and had spent some time with his former teammates. Perhaps it's because is was only a year older than me. Perhaps because he was an important cog in the wheel for the Jays for so long. RIP Wardo.

One of the best, if not the best, setup reliever in MLB history. You had to beat the early 90s jays by 7th inning or else you had Wardo and the Terminator coming to greet you.

@MLB ๐น๐น๐น

@Darth_Pingu So sad that he passed away before he could take part in the 50th anniversary celebrations. He was only 62 one year older than myself ๐๐ข

Man that is so sad!

Sad news. I really liked the Jays during this era.

So sad to hear of his passing. As well as being a great pitcher he was also a great golfer. My husband played with him in the Duane Ward Celebrity Golf Classic in 1995. A great memory.

This hurts so much. Damn.

Sad indeed- Deepest Condolences to his family and friends and especially the Blue Jay players he played with over the years in Toronto. Young age too as such. God Bless him.

Great player. Willing to be the setup guy until he got a chance to close. Jays win nothing without him. He was as key as Henke in relief.

@MLB RIP to one of the best!

@MLB my husband threw out the first pitch april 1992 to duane ward who signed the ball and is framed together with the event pictures and tickets to game โฆ Godโs comfort and peace be with your family duane. thank you for representing toronto and the blue jays well ๐โพ๏ธ๐

All the best to his family.

@MLB I know you are game changer
