Evolved out of rage cause Aerodactyl taunted him for being unable to fly to catch him

And thus began one of the greatest story arcs in the history of anime IMO. Satoshi and his Lizardon being Frenemies for a long ass time

I do find it a nice touch that Ash's Pokemon had to learn a bunch of new moves to take on Paul here. Really suits the idea they're literally "leveling up" in order to match a stronger opponent
