The self help gurus have mistaken forgiveness with acceptance. There's a huge difference. You cannot, nor should not forgive behavior which the person shows no remorse for doing. Acceptance is to know that it happened and are willing to not let it marinate you in the moment forever. Forgiveness on the other hand can only happen, and should only happen when enough of what was wrong, was then again made whole.

@DawgRight He’s part of the problem. Sorry. Appreciate the fact that he is capable of forgiveness, but white people backing down in these situations is emboldening these thugs. Forgiveness is God’s gig. I’ll just arrange the meeting.

I admire that you hold a moral and spiritual belief obligating forgiveness. This is the Way for individuals. But I want our courts to mete out justice, punishment, and deterrent ... with forgiveness far, far down the priority list.
