So it’s over. United States was ranked 16th coming in to World Cup so 2nd Round exit is on par. Final score shows how far US has to go in this sport. Belgium is a world powerhouse. As host US was successful, filled stadiums, people who came here seemed to have fun, they sold a lot of TV commercials. There was a lot of corporate hype and some people believed they were contenders. But the US has reached QF just twice in 96-year history of WC and won’t here in 2026. I would have loved to see them win. Who doesn’t love a winner? This is not a negative post. But like one of the post-game commentators said, “this was a reality check.” And the reality is soccer is NOT our sport. Don’t know that it ever will be. I’m fine with that

Their World Cup winning side that demolished Brazil 7-1 in 2014 was the culmination of a long national project to establish German dominance, and that team was the peak expression of German martial virtues in a sporting context. Since then their decline has mirrored German national decline. Many former players have complained about the team losing "Kampfgeist," which was the resilience, collective will and fighting spirit that made so many German teams triumph over more individually talented opposition. Obviously, the subtext of this is that much of the team are no longer ethnically German. The champ WHITE ABARRIO doing great this morning, came out of the race in good order. Can’t say enough about this special horse, his heart, competitive spirit, and the connection he has with his racing fan base. Yesterday was a great day for horse racing, three 7-year olds finishing 1-2-3 in a Grade 1 race showing the world these amazing athletes do not need to be retired and go to the breeding shed at 3-4 years olds. Something needs to change for the longevity of the sport, lets get back to racing and not so focused on 3-4 year olds with 6-7 starts hitting the breeding shed. Lets race! Congratulations to one of our favorites Skippylongstocking, now a Grade 1 winner and to Saffie Joseph Jr. and his entire team for winning back to back Pegasus World Cup. Congrats Tyler Gaffalione great ride!

Sitting there itching to criticise the US and Trump over the FIFA decision on Folarin Balogun’s one-game ban, he lands a cheap dig at the host nation: “I’d be absolutely raging if I was Belgium… Are we surprised? No. Not with this lot.” “This lot”? That’s not just criticising FIFA. By lumping the hosts as “this lot”, he’s lazily painting the entire country and its team with the same brush over a governing body decision. This is the very nation that welcomed him to America as a pundit to cover the tournament. Disrespectful doesn’t even cover it. And the hypocrisy is glaring. The exact same mechanism (FIFA suspending part of a red-card ban under Article 27) was used for Cristiano Ronaldo after his elbow in World Cup qualifying. He served one match and the rest was put on probation so he could play the tournament. Where was Neville’s outrage then? 🦗 Same rule. Same “special treatment”, but no outrage from Neville. 🤔
