You won't believe it, but Kate Foster was appointed as the UK's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York on July 1. For those who don't know her, while serving as the UK's Ambassador to Somalia, she played a key role in opposing the Blue Revolution in northeastern Somalia, a movement that ultimately drove the separatist forces out of northeastern Somalia and confined them to northwestern Somalia, leading to the establishment of what is now the Northeastern Federal State of Somalia, which covers around 45% of the territory claimed by Somaliland. And, by coincidence, the British Ambassador to Somalia visited Somaliland today! The United Kingdom remains the biggest foreign obstacle to Somalia's unity❗️

Does Somaliland control all the territory it claims? The answer is no! The separatist project is largely concentrated around Hargeisa, Berbera, and Burao. To the south, it is bordered by the federal member state of Northeast State, which has broken away from its authority. To the north, it faces growing resistance from communities that reject separatism in the Awdal region. Somaliland neither controls all the territory it claims nor enjoys support from all the people living within those claimed borders.
