Former Democratic Senator Al Franken & Bill Maher discussing Biden's 100% tariffs on EVs built in China & imported to the US: Bill Maher: Why does it (tariffs) not work only for Republicans? Isn't it a bad idea what the Democrats are doing? Al Franken: I don't know electric...

Franken is wrong. All the China simps are lying. In the case of a 20% tariff on TV's from China we simply buy Korean TV's (or some place with no tariff). Duh. China can either lower their price or not sell TV's in the US.

Hate to say it but Franken is spot on here. Kudos to him for also admitting tariffs are wrong regardless of which party is pushing them.

UAW. That’s why. Also terrif are supposed force companies to start manufacturing here so their products won’t have tariffs. A least that’s the idea.

Biden's 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs aim to protect legacy automakers by slowing the influx of cheaper, technologically advanced Chinese vehicles, giving domestic manufacturers time to adapt. However, this might not significantly impact Tesla, which has already established a strong presence in China, benefiting from local production and market understanding. While legacy automakers get a temporary shield, Tesla's global strategy positions it well regardless of these tariffs. 🇺🇸👍🤔

Franken is right on unit economics, but misses the bigger picture. Tariffs affect the flow of trade and reduce China's access to the U.S. market, the largest demand center globally. That loss hits China, while U.S. firms benefit. Tariffs aren't just taxes—they're tools for geopolitical leverage, and domestic protectionism. Trump isn't entirely wrong, Franken's take is oversimplified.

Reason is to protect good paying American jobs only Tesla can compete with China. They have subsidized their production capacity so no regular capitalism can compete with that,

People saying tariffs are universally bad for a nation that has multiple tariffs levied against it by other nations and suffers horrendous trade deficits are the type of people that let bullies run their life Have to use tariffs as a negotiating tactic. It’s a double-edged sword

It's simple economics 101. Companies here in the US need to make a profit (good margins). Tariffs make that harder, so they avoid buying high tariff products so they can increase margins.

Most Gas and Hybrid vehicles suck compared to EVs. Even @Ford ‘s CEO Jim Farley admitted that over 50% of the population would be better off driving EVs than gas or hybrid vehicles. I will never go back to owning a gas car ever again…

“Ana Kasparian and Bill Maher Clash Over Whether Israel’s War in Gaza Is Creating More Extremism” Ana Kasparian: You want to talk about a little bit of truth? I can exhilarate you. Bill Maher: I know you're going to say genocide, and I'm going to say you don't know what the word means. Ana Kasparian: I'm Armenian. I know what the word means. Bill Maher: It's when you try to wipe out an entire population of people, which they didn't come close to doing. They prosecuted a war in which they were attacked. Ana Kasparian: If they were literally going after Hamas, that is legitimate. But that's not what's happening. Bill Maher: Hamas hides in tunnels underneath hospitals. Hamas is the bad guy. Ana Kasparian: What Hamas did on October 7th was disgusting. I don't hold back on that. But when the IDF's own data indicates that 83% of the people they've killed are civilians... Bill Maher: Because they hide behind them. Ana Kasparian: But Bill, do you understand that by killing so many civilians, they are essentially multiplying extremism? Bill Maher: I do understand that. But very often in war, you have two very bad choices. You don't have the good choice. You have the bad choice and the even worse choice. Ana Kasparian: Civilians get killed in wars. Everyone knows that. But there has to be a distinction. Let's say our country was occupied by Mexico. They decide to leave, but they control the electricity, what goes in, what comes out... Bill Maher: Because they were attacking them! Ana Kasparian: Israel has nuclear weapons. They have the world's military superpower backing them! Bill Maher: They have nuclear weapons, which they don't use. If Hamas had a nuclear weapon, how many seconds would it take before they used it on Israel? Ana Kasparian: I have no idea.

Bill Maher: “You need to hear that other side. You need to be checked. People need to be checked. Including your little girl.” David Cross: “F*ck that b*tch. F*ck that little b*tch with her black friends and tr*ns friends and not even understanding.” Bill Maher: “Tr*ns? Wait, [your daughter] has tr*ns friends in third grade?” David Cross: “Yeah.” Bill Maher: “They know they’re tr*ns in third grade?” David Cross: “I think just turned 9 [years-old]… Just the coolest kid.” Bill Maher: “[Is the child transitioning from] girl to boy?” David Cross: “Girl to boy. And she has another very close friend who’s not in the school, but who’s boy to girl at 3 years old.” Bill Maher: “A woman said, ‘I was what they called a tomboy. If I was alive now and acted the way I did then, that’s what they would have done to me.’” David Cross: “Well, nobody’s doing this to her.” Bill Maher: “Well, I don’t know.” David Cross: “Literally nobody is doing this to her.” Bill Maher: “How old?” David Cross: “Either 8 or I think 9.” Bill Maher: “Okay, then somebody is doing something because 8 or 9-year-olds can’t do anything on their own.” David Cross: “No, they’re buying them boys' clothes.” Bill Maher: “Well then, they’re doing something.” David Cross: “Sure. Yes, you’re right. They’re buying them boys' clothes.” Bill Maher: “And telling them you’re a boy now.” David Cross: “No, no, they’re not telling them. They’re just agreeing with [the child].” Bill Maher: “Agreeing with an 8-year-old. Because when has their judgment ever been off at 8?” David Cross: “You knew you weren’t g*y, right?… It’s not different.” Bill Maher: “It is different. Good luck with President Vance. Because, as I always say to my woke friends, we voted for the same person. You’re just why [Kamala Harris] lost and this is a case of that.” David Cross: “Wait, what?” Bill Maher: “We voted for the same person. You’re just why she lost. Because America hears this, and they’re going to go, ‘Bill’s right. 8-year-olds can’t really make decisions on their own like this.’ That’s what most people are going to say.” “This is why we’re going to vote for JD Vance... That’s America in a nutshell.”

Bill Maher asks Ana Kasparian which Middle Eastern country she would feel comfortable wearing “that dress” and then this happened. MAHER: “If you had to live in the Middle East. Any city. Where would you live where you’d be comfortable in that dress?” ANA: “I’m sure I would not be comfortable in this dress in any of the various Middle Eastern countries that have been destabilized by—” MAHER INTERRUPTS: “Really? You’re not really blaming it on whitey, are you? You’re blaming Islam on whitey?” ANA: “I’m not blaming Islam on whitey.” MAHER: “But what you’re saying is we destabilize? That’s why you can’t wear that dress?” ANA: “Did we destabilize?” MAHER: “Wait a second.” ANA: “We were funding terrorist organizations in Syria during the Syrian civil war starting under the Obama administration.” MAHER: “We’re talking about your dress.” ANA: “It looks good, I know.” MAHER: “You’re saying you can’t wear that dress in Syria because of whitey destabilizing?” ANA: “I didn’t say that.” MAHER: “Okay, that’s what it sounded like… When I asked about the dress, you went right to destabilize. So is that why you couldn’t wear that dress?” ANA: “You want me to talk about jihadism and Islam.” MAHER: “Why won’t you? Why won’t you?” ANA: “I don’t believe in jihadism, which is why I’m furious the United States just had significant Al Qaeda terrorists in the White House.” MAHER: “But it’s not just jihadism that is preventing you from wearing that dress there. Are you saying every Muslim is a jihadist? I don’t think they are.” ANA: “Bill. Bill, Bill, Bill. Let’s focus for a second.” MAHER: “No, you won’t answer this question.”
