Former surgeon Joël Le Scouarnec is standing trial for raping and abusing hundreds of young patients, often while they were under anaesthetic, in what has been called the worst child sexual abuse scandal in French history. Le Scouarnec, 73, is accused of assaulting or raping 299 children between 1989... and 2014. A search of his home uncovered more than 300,000 photos, 650 pedophilic, zoophilic and scatological video files, child-sized sex dolls, as well as notebooks where he described himself as a pedophile and detailed the rapes of his young victims in meticulously compiled diaries, according to investigation documents. Le Scouarnec had been convicted in 2005 for possessing and importing child sexual abuse material and sentenced to four months of suspended prison time. Norfolk police said that the men were charged as part of an investigation into group-based child sexual exploitation in Norwich.
