Fox News featured a segment about tariffs last week on Special Report with Bret Baier. It seems some of the top brass at the network want their viewers to know - foreign countries don't pay tariffs - U.S. importers and companies do with the cost often being passed onto consumers.

It’s really very simple. First, why would a foreign country be upset with tariffs? I mean if the “tax” is paid for some other country’s citizens, why would they care? Seems odd. Second, if the producer believes his product has inelastic demand, and also if the importer thinks the same, then the price will rise on the consumer. Now if either thinks the demand is elastic, then they will have to eat all or part of the tariff, meaning the consumer doesn’t pay the entire tariff. Third, if they do raise price the consumer can choose not to pay the increase and buy a competing product, therefore again not paying the tariff. See?

Some goods aren’t made in America. The consumer has no choice but to buy an item with a tariff or go without. Does it make sense for American factories to make cheap plastic toys? Nope. Our costs are too high.

It's amazing that every nation that has tariffs on U.S. goods benefits from those tariffs, but American tariffs on foreign goods is no benefit at all for Americans. This is the propaganda machine in action.

You are missing the point. It’s called leveling the playing field. If I’m an importer, and I’m buying cheap products from a foreign country, I can then sell those goods at a lower price point than an American based company can. If there are tariffs, the tariffs do add to the cost of the importer, but American companies can now compete on price due to the tariff. The whole point of the tariff is to help American companies, keep the money in America, create more jobs, more tax income and put more money in American worker’s pockets.
