In this Oxford Union speech, Dr Kizza Besigye argues against the very approach the state is currently trying him for; trying to use firearms to overthrow the government. He argues that if the people’s post independence struggle is a struggle to regain citizenship, using guns to change government is not a fundamental change but a mere change of guards which simply takes power from one set of warlords to the next and that it portends even worse outcomes.

[WATCH] With regards to the AbaThembu King we don’t support his stance on Isreal. We don’t support Israel as the ANC. What the king is doing is a betrayal of our solidarity with the Palestinian people. Doing arrogantly and blatantly like that is unbelievable, especially as somebody who comes from a struggle background. He was in exile and his father a stalwart of our liberation struggle, the fact that he can simply forget all of that and side with a state that kills people. If he went to Israel and Palestine we would understand. But to insult the cause of the Palestinians in Israel is a betrayal. #ANC114

It’s like going against a computer at chess. You iterate and adapt your moves until you find the right combination that solves the problem.
