carlos on the collision that ruined his race: “up until then, we’d had a good start and a good race pace. during the 10 laps the team let me push, i was lapping in the 18s while the rest of the midfield was doing 19s, so we were having a good race for the few laps i was able to push. we had two or four points in the bag, and suddenly on that restart i had two cars behind me that looked like they were risking their lives or their racing careers on a restart in monaco with 8 laps to go, and they made it to the loews corner. yeah, the one on the inside, i think it was nico, ran me off track. unusual, because he’s so experienced and knows that in monaco at turn 6 everyone has to brake too hard because of the concertina effect. it’s very rare for someone with that much experience to be able to run you off the track in a corner like that.”

"why? just hard work from my engineers and from myself to improve me as a driver" 👏🏻👏🏻 🗣️: friday night did you think you had the car to win the race? and do you have an explanation of the difference of pace between you and oscar? lando: "no, i didn't think so. especially after fp1, i didn't. actually, andrea wanted to make a bet with me because i was pretty disappointed with the pace and how the car was handling in fp1. it got a bit better in fp2, but still the ferraris were just on another level. and i really didn't expect to get as close as we did in quali. but the wind changed from friday to saturday, and the saturday wind really suited our car a lot more. we had a lot more confidence in driving the car, so i could push more. and then i certainly felt like i could be on pole yesterday, and i felt like i could win a race today. i think today the race pace was much better than i was expecting. the degradation was much better than i was expecting too. but it was probably one of my best performances personally in terms of driving the car. the fact i can keep up with oscar on this kind of track, where it's impossible to follow, impossible to overtake, i was within eight tenths or something for 40 laps almost. the fact i could do this is what gave me confidence that i would win the race no matter what, whether he boxed early or late or whatever. the pace advantage i had was huge today. but i don't know why. the cars are identical. and i've just been feeling very, very strong lately. i've worked on many areas from last year. i feel much more confident lately with how to extract performance. and i worked a lot with my engineers to understand this car, because it's certainly not an easy car to understand and figure out on how to drive on the limit consistently. so why? just hard work from my engineers and from myself to improve me as a driver and improve my driving. and that is the answer"

"Didn't agree with any of the tyres today, no, a very very hard race, I can tell you it was a really really tough race, one being extremely hot, so yeah I had, my start wasn't really very good to be honest, my getaway was poor but then I was on the attack, obviously got past Charles and I thought it wasn't looking too bad in the first few laps with George, I was kind of holding on for a second and then the rear just dropped off on every set, for some reason the balance was very open, very difficult and I think we, I mean on Friday we were down six tenths just in straight line speed, and I have to go and see what the case was today but I'm sure it was not insignificant, but also just grip wise we just couldn't keep up with everyone today, so a very tough one but I'm grateful for the points, the team did a great job with the strategy and with the pit stops, the boys worked so hard on the pit stops so we were proud of them and yeah, not the result we wanted but we got the points atleast." I honestly thought that we were faster than we were. I think we need to look at our practice sessions because obviously it was very promising on Friday. We made, I think, a step in the wrong direction on Saturday morning and we didn't move from there. And the car was just very weak in the middle and the last sector. So we couldn't get close to the cars ahead. Soso ultimately, I think process-wise we can improve and then set up the direction that we took was wrong. But I think also the guys around us were really quick. We just needed to qualify quick.
