Give this legend a break. How would you look at 94? At least he cannstill walk to a gas station and get himself a coffee. So he is still mentally capable to walk around. At that age I wouldn’t care how I look.

I saw a lot of films on drug addiction and withdrawal, and I chose a specific pain for myself. John Frankenheimer allowed me time to prepare for that kind of work in a class, when you’re in a protected situation, and another on asset where you’re incredibly limited by time and other restraints—it’s four in the morning and the crew has been there since six the previous morning, and people think you’re being difficult because you need time to make the scene really come alive. The best actors can do it, though. An actor has to have a terrible toughness and sensitivity side by side." (Gene Hackman, Beverly Walker, Film Comment, 1988)
