Every time it rains, Jammu-Srinagar National Highway falls apart somewhere between Jammu and Banihal. A road that collapses with the change in weather has no business being called a national highway. Rename it “National Disaster Highway” until it is built to last. And one more thing; why should commuters keep paying toll for a road that turns into a hazard every time it starts raining? Or Should be ban Monsoon from entering Jammu and Kashmir Because it seems NHAI is more concerned about Toll and less worried about making this road safe for commuters? Office of LG J&K and Omar Abdullah when will this change?

A massive traffic jam has blocked the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway since early morning, stretching from Vasai to Ghodbunder and reaching the Fountain Hotel. I drove from Jammu to Srinagar today. It snowed continuously from Banihal to Srinagar. The conditions were quite treacherous. I understand there are around 2000 vehicles stuck between the tunnel & Qazigund. My office has been in touch with the administration in South Kashmir. While snow clearance has been done the road is very icy. Heavy vehicles are being allowed to move & efforts are on to clear the rest of the stranded vehicles.

Stay alert near Gap in Medians, highway intersections. The driver can see the crossing trucks from a long distance. Expecting traffic on the main highway without any traffic calming measures to slow down, while allowing vehicles to cross the road is a design flaw.

Earlier this week I was in J&K, every time a security convoy passes on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway (which is throughout the day), vehicles on either side are stopped. Our car was stopped multiple times, abruptly. Clearly Kashmir is more normal than the others! Am sure there are better ways to ensure security for the security personnel than causing inconvenience to locals and tourists.
