It’s been 24 hours, and I’m still trying to process losing Harry. For the last two years, Harry and I spoke almost every day. We had both been through a lot in life, and somehow we randomly connected at Satoshi Roundtable. We quickly realized our worlds had crossed in more ways than we knew, including mutual friends going all the way back to the early YC days. Harry became much more than a friend. He taught me an enormous amount. He challenged the way I thought. He was, without question, one of the smartest people I have ever known. I want to say this publicly because whatever people may read about Harry or the circumstances surrounding his death, I want people to know the human being I knew. Harry had one of the biggest hearts. He was extraordinarily intelligent, deeply curious, generous with what he knew, and relentlessly progressive in how he thought about technology and the future. He came from very little, built an extraordinary life and fortune, and never lost his willingness to share what he had learned with the people around him. There are still many unanswered questions about what happened, and I’m not prepared to draw conclusions. I hope the truth becomes clear in time. For now, I want to focus on Harry’s life, not his death. He taught a lot of people a lot of things. I was fortunate enough to be one of them. I’ll carry those lessons forward for the rest of my life. The relentless attempt to paint Prince William as the villain because he wouldn’t entertain Harry or play their media games is getting out of control. William didn’t publicly humiliate his family. He didn’t sell private conversations. He didn’t sit in interviews making accusations against his father, his brother and Catherine. He didn’t turn family grief into content. He didn’t spend years telling the world his version of events while repeatedly dragging his family into it. Harry did. Yet somehow William is the cold, unforgiving brother who needs to “heal the rift,” while Harry gets an endless supply of excuses. “He lost his mother young.” So did William. Diana was William’s mother too. And Harry is not a grieving 12-year-old boy anymore. He is a middle-aged man who has had decades to process his grief, make his own choices and take responsibility for them. At some point, childhood tragedy cannot become a lifetime exemption from accountability. And somehow people still want to make William the problem? Did a coconut fall on your head? How many times is William expected to take the high road while Harry keeps burning the bridge? William chose not to play the game. He chose restraint, duty and protecting his family & Country. And for that, he’s somehow the villain? Fuck that.

Remember when Harry was accusing his family of briefing against his wife “daily” with lies, claiming it had got so bad that he and Meghan had to “run away from my country”? He was saying this while promoting Spare, a book in which he proceeded to do exactly what he was accusing his family of doing: publicly air private family matters, private conversations, arguments and grievances, and give his version of events to the world. Did he actually hear himself? The irony is almost unbelievable. 🙄 He complained about unnamed sources feeding stories to the press while he was sitting there promoting a memoir that did the job himself, only with his name on the cover. So did Harry ever stop to think about the contradiction? He accused his family of using the media to control the narrative about them and Meghan, while he and Meghan went on to build an entire public narrative about the Royal Family through interviews, documentaries, podcasts, books and media appearances. And then there is the question that still makes the original accusation look even more absurd: if the Royal Family were really briefing against Meghan “daily”, how did all those briefings and leaks suddenly stop when Harry and Meghan left? It’s almost as if the source of all those briefings packed up and moved to Montecito with them. And then there’s the Charlotte Griffiths episode, where she said information about a meeting involving the Sussexes came from a close adviser to Harry and Meghan, only for Sussex sources to blame the Palace for the resulting story. So Harry’s accusation comes full circle: accuse the Palace of briefing against you, while allegedly having your own side brief, and then blame the Palace when you get caught. The hypocrisy is breathtaking.

Harry and Meghan leak their little itineraries weeks in advance like the world is counting down the days, then turn around and cry “security risks.” The biggest security risk for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry these days seems to be empty crowds. Just look at Australia and Geneva. Empty streets and venues aren’t exactly the sign of people desperate to get close to you. Nothing clears a venue faster than the Sussexes showing up. Empty chairs and tumbleweeds don’t lie. 🤭 Real working royals carry out public engagements and interact with thousands of people every year without treating every appearance like a high-risk military operation. But Harry and Meghan behave as if there’s a global queue of assassins waiting just for them. Harry and Meghan Markle are so adamant about security because it reinforces the image they want to project. The more extraordinary the security, the more important they appear. At this point, it feels less about an actual threat and more about maintaining the illusion that they’re still operating on the level of senior working royals.
