The gap is so so real. The interview tests you can reverse a binary tree. The job is figuring out why the pipeline broke at 2am and nobody left any comments.

the gap is real and it is the point. the interview tests recall of things you look up in seconds, and the job tests whether you can sit with a bug for two days without giving up. only one of those is screenable.

and then you’re writing a linked list every day!
