Perplexity founder Aravind Srinivas explains the “user is never wrong” philosophy of Larry Page Aravind recounts a story of Larry Page’s meeting with the CEO of Excite. Excite was the #2 search engine behind Yahoo at the time, and they were interested in buying Google. The two CEOs compared the search results of their products side-by-side. When Google’s results were clearly better, Excite’s CEO tried to excuse his product’s performance: “If you typed the query this way, it would’ve worked.” Aravind believes this is an important difference in philosophy between Google and Excite. Larry Page believed that a search engine should give high quality answers regardless of what the user typed: “You do all the magic behind the scenes so that even if the user was lazy, even if there were typos… they still got the answer and they love the product.” Today Google dominates search, and most people have never heard of Excite. Aravind believes the best AI products will adopt this same philosophy and that “prompt engineering” won’t be a long-term thing. “I think you want to make products work where a user doesn’t even ask for something. You know that they want it and you give it to them… People are lazy and a better product should be one that allows you to be more lazy, not less. Tariffs are generating extra revenue for the U.S. government, so that gives us some cushion. Number two: the real way to get out from under the debt, if you're worried about the debt, is to do everything you can to grow the economy faster. If I invite people to look at their own lives, the way you got out—the way you became richer as you got older in your life. Why aren't you as poor today as you were when you were a student, or when you first started out in life? 'Cause you earned more money, right? That is how wealth gets built. That is how the United States as a collective is going to get out of a any sort of debt problem. We are going to grow our economy. That is 100% what we should be thinking about: growing our ability to have and produce more goods and services. That's it. The money stuff is kind of a distraction. The numbers of what percentage of GDP, all a distraction. What really matters is the real world: are we making stuff and are we performing services so that we have enough of it in the future. That's it."

It comes from the kind of news they were exposed to and the anger they felt. I myself probably wouldn’t do the same thing that person did to us. 🦖: What I want is for people to look more at the reality of what is happening, what actually occurred between Thailand and Cambodia. And to try to understand it, because in truth, ordinary people like us, and people on the Cambodian side as well, are directly affected by this situation. But this is not something we should be blaming or attacking each other over.

Israel’s demand that Hezbollah be disarmed is “anything but reasonable,” because the Lebanese government has no capacity to enforce that demand, says Daniel Levy, a former Israeli peace negotiator and now president of US/Middle East Project. "Israel knows that what it is doing here is it is trying to put something that sounds reasonable on the table, but with the intention of embarrassing and humiliating the Lebanese government." The foregone failed conclusion of the talks could "throw Lebanon back into a civil war," which is an outcome that some Israeli leaders have "openly" considered. Duolingo founder on the key to solving retention “The way we solved [retention] was just through trial and error,” Duolingo founder Luis Von Ahn explains. “By now, some of us have some intuition about what is good for gamification, but the reality is that most of it is just trial and error.” He continues: “In the history of Duolingo, we have run 16,000 A/B tests. Each one of those is trying to figure out if we change these little things — “should this button be red or blue?” — to try to get you to come back. And its these 16,000 A/B tests that have made our retention outstanding.
