PEACEFUL PROTEST: After Seattle School District administrators reportedly surprised students by splitting the lunch period into two different lunches, hundreds of students flocked to the administration building to protest the change. After speaking with students, it was clear that they only desire one lunch period where they can socialize with all their friends, not just the ones that share the same time slot. A special moment this morning! Instead of riding the bus or driving, over 175 of our students and families joined our #BikeBus today to get to school. To make the morning even better, yard signs and posters with positive messages greeted the students as they rode by! 🚲🏡

OAU transport system was near perfect, adequate buses and bikes, we rarely experienced queues until the First Lady came and decided she didn’t like the ease of transportation and introduced “change” by donating CNG buses. The school management in turn banned all motorcycles and commercial buses on campus and subjected over 30,000 students to just about 50 buses and a few tricycles. OAU has one of the largest land masses of any Nigerian university, yet students are now stranded daily. This is a Monday morning where students are supposed to rush for class, but they are stuck at the campus gate because of the inefficiency of the CNG buses. Students are struggling to go to class in the morning and in the evenings to even get back to their hostels. Students staying off campus now spend almost double to get to campus, all alternative transport means have been removed The management have cars to bypass all of this, but majority of students do not. Yet they released statements talking about how the buses will “ease transportation” and even implied students appreciate the system. Meanwhile, students are trekking, missing classes, and spending hours in queues. Let it be clear that students do not appreciate this system. It has made our lives harder, not better. What used to be a smooth system has now become a daily struggle. There are many pressing issues in this school, but they chose to dismantle a working transport system and replace it with hardship. We can no longer remain silent. Let the whole world know what OAU students are going through. What an incredible end to my time with our students. Wow. Praying for Pastor Curtis as he takes over the last few messages. A bunch of students lingered for over an hour around the altar praying in groups as spontaneous, unplugged worship continued. The Spirit of Jesus was there. A lot of professions of faith and many who took a new, bold step forward in faith. About 50 students have been getting up at 6am to do worship on their own together. Incredible. Some of the students maybe aren’t exactly on-key, but it’s a joyful noise if I’ve ever heard one! And I I couldn’t not point out that our camp mom Betsy had the smallest tattoo I’ve literally ever seen. Seriously, zoom in to where she’s pointing. Commemorates her successful open-heart surgery.

Today, in my capacity as the President of NANS, I led all the structures of NANS, including sister unions, NAUS, NAPS, NANCES and NFSAN to the Community High school, Ahoro-Esiele, and Yawato community in Orire Local Government area of Oyo state, where we visited the scenes where our students and teachers were abducted. Going forward, we met with the King, some of the families of the victims, and parents in the communities of Ahoro-Esiele and Yawato communities. Furthermore, we assured them of our solidarity and support for them in this time of trouble and grief. Subsequently, we assured them that we are constantly calling on the government to ensure the immediate rescue and safe return of the abducted students and teachers. Conclusively, I assured all Nigerian Students that as far as I remain their President, I will continue to protect their interest. They can be assured that they have a leadership that will not let them down. BABTEE NANS PRESIDENT
