This movie was such a cultural shift and I don't think a whole lot of animated films (or films in general) at the time tackled taboo themes in such a way. And I admire it deeply for that.

The subtle joke of the pig being exposed in the church is really brilliant.

“Fritz the Cat” (1972), directed by Ralph Bakshi, was the first animated feature to receive an X rating in the United States. Based on Robert Crumb’s underground comic, the film broke new ground by bringing adult counterculture themes into mainstream animation. 🎬🐾 Ralph Bakshi The story follows Fritz, a hedonistic, rebellious alley cat drifting through a chaotic version of 1960s America. Through satire, social critique, and surreal humor, the film tackles politics, race, sexuality, and disillusionment with the establishment — all through an irreverent animated lens. 🗽🔥
