From a scouting perspective, Dach had a very impressive shift. He made an excellent defensive play deep in his zone to spin away from the opponent. Nice puck skills and speed exiting the zone, smart feed to Newhook on the rush, solid puck retrievals in the O zone, and... chip to Newhook. A solid hit to take Fabbro out of the play went to the front of the net and bumped Fabbro away with the purpose of establishing a net-front presence. Even his shot was decent other than not raising the puck but that is often the case that close in...it was simply a great save. He also diligently got two more cracks at it, and had the right idea. Two more good saves. I loved that shift from him. If he does that consistently, he will start producing.show more

Seeing this shift was a breath of fresh air. I am hopeful that this is a sign that he is making progress in getting back to playing like he was before he got hurt.

He needs to sit at least 2-3 games, because 1 good shift every 10-15 games means that he’s back.

KIDS: I had a Russian coach growing up, one of the best coaches I've ever had, whose biggest habit he instilled in us was moving without the puck. He would make us do a somersault on the ice if we passed the puck and just stood there in practice. All practice he would be yelling GET OPEN!!! Our team was the best I've ever seen with give-and-go's. We were programmed to always be moving to support the puck, especially just after we passed it. We developed so much hockey sense under him with that mentality as it continually forced us to anticipate where the play was going. That year, we won the National Championship and we had a ton of players end up playing college hockey. This is a PHENOMENAL clip of what he would have been so proud of. Pass, move, get it back, goal. Nolan Allan gets the puck, moves it quick, dashes right to the net while the defender watched the pass, and then receives it right back and buries. Absolute gold. Coaches, this is a great clip to show your teams on the power of moving away from the puck and the give-and-go. Great job and congrats to Allan on his first NHL goal!!

COACHES: This is modern, “positionless” hockey. Teams defend hard with their D in the neutral zone, often stepping up with tight gaps forcing turnovers or dump ins. With that, you're seeing forwards often going back to retrieve pucks or being first support for a defenseman on the retrieval. This is a great example that leads to a goal from the Avs. Girard steps up in the neutral zone forcing the dump from DET. Val Nichushkin, a winger, is the first person back on retrieval. He makes a great play behind the net and then BOOM he gets going up ice. He ends up getting the puck back on the entry and scores. A forward back for first touch on the breakout, then he gets the puck on the rush for the goal. Absolutely love it. Coaches, this is why you play your kids in different positions in youth hockey. They have to be able to understand the game from different perspectives because the game calls for the application of different skills in different situations more and more the older you get. If we’re creating robots in youth, there’s no chance for development of those skills that will allow players to have success at the higher levels. Great job by the Avs and a great clip to show your teams and coaches about the value of “positionless” hockey.

They turn the puck over with two CAR forecheckers now right there and the puck ends up in the back of the net. A better solution would be to move it right away or suck defenders towards you (and away from) your teammate so when you pass to them they'll have more time and space. Right before that section that you had brought up, Tom, he talked all about how the United Kingdom and the United States need to reinforce their alliance and that they will ‘continue to defend our shared values with partners in Europe and the Commonwealth across the world’ and that they ‘ignore the clarion calls to become ever more inward looking,’ which, of course, has been a degree of criticism for the Trump administration at different points. The other thing I think is very interesting thing to point out, which you may not realize if you were watching at home, I had the prepared remarks in front of me, that the king did not at any point stray even a syllable away from the remarks that he had prepared to deliver hear in this chamber. A very research-much different approach from Donald Trump or any other president. Bill Clinton was known to stray from his script from time to time to drive home a point.
