As an Indian citizen, in my personal capacity, I apologize to our Nepali brothers and sisters. This should never have happened. India and Nepal share deep-rooted historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties, and this incident is not a reflection of how India sees Nepal. The recent events at KIIT have been deeply troubling. Following the tragic death of Prakriti Lamsal, allegations have emerged that the university’s management, faculty, staff, and security personnel behaved in an inhumane and deeply unbecoming manner, few unverified videos also suggest that. After her passing, Nepali students protesting were allegedly subjected to verbal and physical abuse by university security and staff. A shocking video from campus appears to show a faculty member mocking Nepali students This is beyond insensitive—it is unacceptable. The Embassy of Nepal in India has intervened, ensuring Nepali students can stay in their hostels and calling for a fair and transparent investigation. The institution has now asked Nepali students to return, while earlier they had asked them to vacate. The Government of Nepal, including the Foreign Minister and Prime Minister, are closely monitoring the situation. The Indian Embassy in Nepal is also actively engaged and extending all necessary help in this regard. I am reliably told that the Odisha government has taken this matter seriously and is working with the Nepali embassy and other Indian authorities to address concerns. This demands swift action, accountability, and justice. BJP had put special category status in their manifesto as a promise to the people of #Odisha, however, this promise has not been considered for Odisha, whereas special packages, allocating crores of funds have been announced for Andhra Pradesh and Bihar in #Budget2024. Along with this, the demand of Odisha for revision of coal royalty, which has been pending for years with the central government has been rejected, because of which the state will lose thousands of crores of revenue every year. Lots of big promises in different sectors were made to the people of Odisha during the election campaign especially on agriculture, MSME and industry. There is no mention of any promise being fulfilled in this #Budget2024. This is a complete neglect of Odisha and her people. We all know that Odisha faces a number of natural disasters every year, including floods. We had requested for a special package for disaster management. While, similar requests of other states have been considered and they have been granted Special packages for flood protection, the genuine demand of Odisha on disaster management has not been considered. So on both counts whether it is special package or revision of coal royalty, Odisha continues to be neglected by the NDA. Today, the most serious issue being faced by the common public is inflation/price rise, and unemployment. This budget does not have any considerable intervention to address these two major issues. We have been fighting for Justice in the Polavaram issue. Allocating more and more funds for Polavaram without sorting out the genuine grievances of Odisha shows impartiality against Odisha. The NDA government has been at the Centre for more than 10 years now and every budget talks of focus on Eastern India, including Odisha. There has been nothing substantial for Odisha over the years, and this budget has also been a disappointment for us, however, we shall wait for the details. I’m happy to see there is a focus on Tourism for Odisha. I hope it is substantial, and we shall wait for the details to come out. I would say that, along with the people of Odisha, I feel disappointed at the continued neglect of Odisha while the state contributes so much to the country. Leaders of BJP had given many tall promises during poll. But there is nothing for Odisha and for its people.

It seems that the double-engine government is going in reverse gear. A very large sum of money from the last budget has not been spent. Industrial growth is going down, and so are the finances of our state. The prices of essential commodities are affecting everyone in #Odisha. The suicide of farmers continues. Women are not getting work under #MissionShakti. Unemployment is spiraling. To announce a large sum of money in the budget is not important. What has to be done is the expenditure to be spent for the development of our state. I repeat again, that this is a budget that must be spent for the people of #Odisha. We will watch and see what is being spent.

The society we abuse today will eventually take its toll on our children, because they will only learn by our example. Everything we are experiencing in our country today is a reflection of the decay of civility and orderliness. When we choose to conduct both our public and personal lives with bad behaviour and rascality, we normalise bad behaviour, lawlessness, and criminality. I watched a heartbreaking video that showed students in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State running for their lives as they were being shot at during their student election yesterday which left 2 students dead and several injured. The question is: Where did they learn it from? Are they cursed, or are we the political leaders who are cursed? When we have chosen to "fight, snatch it, grab it, and run with it" how can we expect our children to do it rightly and democratically when they have learned from us? This is not just disgraceful, it’s a national indictment. When we, the leaders, have chosen to fight, snatch, grab and run with it, our children have learned similar and rascality is now a normal situation. It is now up to us, the leaders, to learn how to restore civility, order, and core values in our society by ensuring that our character and behaviour reflect the change we seek in our society. We must do better, for our students, for our children, and for our country. A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO
