The courage and kindness I’ve seen today in flood affected communities is the very best of Australia. This region has been through so much, and every level of government is working to provide support. We’re activating the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment of $1,000 for the hardest hit. And we’re extending the Disaster Recovery Allowance to more areas. ADF personnel and Disaster Relief Australia teams are being deployed to help with the clean up and welfare checks. The floodwaters are receding, but the risks remain. Please stay safe. We’ll be here for the recovery, every step of the way.

The severe weather and flooding events in the Nelson Tasman region have caused significant impacts to families and businesses, and there is a long clean-up and recovery ahead. Today I was pleased to announce that we’re funding a new weather radar for the region, which plays an incredibly important role in emergency management events. This is in addition to a $600,000 support package for the region’s flood-affected farmers, growers, foresters and rural contractors, and accommodation support for displaced residents.

Another great day of helping others here in #Ukraine. Today was spent on a farmers field checking for mines and UXOs. We visited this farmer over a week ago and I told him we will help him, and keeping to our word, we are back.
