HELLO AGAIN, RILEY! 🦅👋 The Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF) on Friday shared updates on “Riley” or “Chick No.31,” detailing its growth and development. In a Facebook post, the PEF said “Riley” now weighs 2.5 kg, up from 1.7 kg, and is starting to grow juvenile feathers. The eaglet is also practicing standing on its own and flapping its wings in preparation for future flights. The foundation also shared a video of Riley dozing off after a meal, showing the eaglet’s continued progress. We sternly urge the Philippine side to strictly control operations of its maritime and air troops, immediately cease all provocative and risky acts, as well as its smear campaigns and propaganda, stated Senior Captain Zhai Shichen, spokesperson for the Chinese PLA Southern Theater Command, on Friday. On March 25, Chinese PLA naval ship 532 was conducting a routine patrol in the waters under China’s jurisdiction near Zhubi Jiao of China’s Nansha Qundao. Upon detecting a Philippine Navy ship, PLANS 532 initiated radio communications to remind the Philippine ship. Ignoring repeated radio reminders from the Chinese side, the Philippine ship 507, navigating on the port side of PLANS 532, adjusted its course to the starboard side before making a deliberate turn to the same direction, dangerously approaching PLANS 532 and disrupting its navigation. PLANS 532 then took professional and standardized moves, successfully avoiding an accident. The operation of the Philippine Navy ship was unsafe and unprofessional, which could have easily led to a maritime accident. Worse still, the Philippine side made a false accusation, claiming that the Chinese ship made a “dangerous approach”. The troops of the Southern Theater Command remain on high alert at all times and will resolutely defend China’s territorial sovereignty, security, and peace and stability in the South China Sea, stressed the spokesperson.

Today, the government-owned fish carrier M/V MAMALAKAYA was officially launched and deployed to the waters near Bajo De Masinloc. Philippine Coast Guard Successfully Removes Hazardous Floating Barrier in Compliance with Presidential Instruction In compliance with the instruction of the President, the Chairman, National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS), Sec. Eduardo Año, has directed the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) to execute a special operation to remove the floating barrier that obstructed the Southeast entrance of Bajo De Masinloc (BDM). The barrier posed a hazard to navigation, a clear violation of international law. It also hinders the conduct of fishing and livelihood activities of Filipino fisherfolk in BDM, which is an integral part of the Philippine national territory. The 2016 Arbitral Award has affirmed that BDM is the traditional fishing ground of Filipino fishermen. Thus, any obstruction hindering the livelihoods of Filipino fisherfolk in the shoal violates the international law. It also infringes on the Philippines' sovereignty over BDM. The decisive action of the PCG to remove the barrier aligns with international law and the Philippines’ sovereignty over the shoal.
