You weren't wrong about ND if you bought the story Kelly was selling. Coach Freeman didn't, and brought in people who didn't, and it's paying off in recruiting.

to be fair - when you are a fan base that had seen a coach as many years as BK was at ND, and you saw how far he took the program, only to never be able to take that final step of winning a big game: You get a jaded opinion. He's a good coach, just not championship winning IMO.
