Ohio Department of Youth Services at the Supreme Court: Week... after week, students came to his clinic saying that faculty or other students had harassed or chastised them — or had come into his office just to berate him. At a faculty lunch, a professor who opposed the case yells at him in public and throws a plate at him. Tenured faculty sent letters trying to “audit” his Supreme Court clinic after an open letter misrepresents his views. The law school convenes a panel on his case — staffed entirely by critics — and doesn’t invite the person who briefed and argued it. He says he reported the plate incident to the administration: “I’m not sure anything has happened.” And still, he refuses to play the victim. Ignorant too. I was already going long on the supercut and still didn’t get to the part where he invites the opposing students to lunch and discovers none of them had even read the case. At a top-five law school, no less.

Discrimination against any individual is wrong. 🇺🇸

Prof. Wang comes across grounded, articulate, self-reflective, and absent malice. His antagonists, seem the opposite, and their demand for absolute ideological conformity is both regressive and destructive.

And Ames was a unanimous case, too!

He also won the case. The Court was unanimous. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson held Title VII does not distinguish between majority and minority groups. The plate throwing law professor should go back to law school.

I went to Loyola Chicago Law and it was so bad students had secret comms to discuss how to get past crazed left wing profs. One class was never taught; she literally bitched about Mitt Romney the entire time.

There is little or no academic freedom for conservatives in elite law schools. Never has been.

It’s been a genuinely shocking lesson to learn.

Xiao Wang is a great professor and a really nice guy generally. UVA needs more professors like him.

It was a 9-0 decision with the court's opinion written by Kagan. This seems like a pretty clear case where the court was going to overturn the lower court no matter what. It's hard to imagine that anyone else would've argued the case very differently or screwed it up badly enough to lose. So, what's the argument then? That the UVA clinic shouldn't represent some people, that they shouldn't take cases that are actually winnable if they're unpopular? This seems like a situation where the plaintiff had a real case, but might have had trouble getting representation from other places. The clinic was able to teach students, using an example of a case that was overturning precedent. And the Supreme Court agreed unanimously that the argument was correct. I think anyone who disagrees with this really has to question if their internal model of the world is correct, since reality seems to contradict quite clearly in this example.

Now every time I hear something about "UVA faculty" protesting or some other nonsense, I'll assume they're all like the insane law professors. By the way conservatives, this is why our judicial system is an absolute catastrophe. It starts in law school.

What bothers me is that what should be common sense requires a supreme court ruling. "The Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Ames on June 5, 2025, in favor of Wang's position, affirming equal application of discrimination tests across groups"

A good attorney should be able to argue either side’s position on a case.

My 17-yr-old son sees the DEI / Marxist lean of UVA & is hesitant to attend the University. As a white Christian kid w/ exceptional test scores and academic achievements, he fears going to UVA will make him a target. How sad is that? At a school founded by Thomas Jefferson.

Outrageous behavior. Legal academia in large part has become platform for profs to advocate for their narrow ideological agendas, to indoctrinate students, and to perform Maoist struggle sessions. No dissent allowed.

Thank you for reporting this! This is how every institution is falling prey to DEI. It’s a zombie like virus that erodes society. Bring back real research, critical thinking and meritocracy because otherwise, the fallout is going to be abyssal for future generations.

It would be interesting to interview some of the faculty and student body who harassed professor Wang, since he prevailed at the Supreme Court 9–0.

I’m a lawyer and a progressive. In law school I took a Supreme Court clinic taught by a conservative former clerk to Scalia. It was a great clinic. I also attended every Federalist Society debate where they always presented both sides ably through outside speakers. Also great.

It’s just astounding that faculty feel entitled to publicly berate him. There are no adults with convictions at any of these institutions. I have no idea how to fix this short of closing them all down.

This was a 9-0 case. If they go to war w/ the professor, they are also going to war with every single judge on the Supreme Court. But maybe they don't even know this.

Bizarre to see this happen at UVa, a more moderate state school, and also for a 9-0 unanimous case. If it’s all accurate, it means the law school has a major issue for Dean Kendrick (who is a free speech expert) to deal with it.
